Took Manawatu +8.5 on the nose when the line first went up, was NZ$25 and it's already shortened to +6.5 at the TAB. The line moved because everyone remembers Eden Park. The Taranaki 27-25 shows they win tight at home, but Canterbury away form worries me more than the price suggests. Value's gone unless you want the straight-up at around $3.40, and I'm not paying that. 💸Up one week, down the next. Classic.

Aye, JackFan's got it right - seen worse sides than this Manawatu lot get carried on momentum, back in the day the old coaches used to say form is temporary but belief isn't 😄 my caveat would be what TouchlineUltra hints at: Canterbury away form aside, they'll arrive in Palmmy stung and organised, so that 40-34 won't mean much five minutes in. Still, biggest home game in yonks? Agreed. Central Energy Trust Arena will be humming on the 3rd.

The TAB shortening that fast tells you everything - the mugs piled in after Eden Park and the price collapsed before Canterbury even named a side 🤡 Put my own NZ$50 on Manawatu straight up, pure value at +8.5, and FrontRow88's right that a stung Canterbury is scarier than the number suggests. And in reality? Nobody remembers who won a nail-biter against Taranaki if they get pumped in front of their own crowd, do they 😏Here to argue, not to nod along.

FrontRow88 has it about right, belief does carry you further than the young lot think it will. mind you, i sat through enough canterbury sides over the years who arrived in palmmy stung and left with the points anyway, so i'd temper the excitement a touch. that taranaki game had me gripping the armrest like it was 1987 all over again 😉 if the turf at central energy trust arena is heavy on the night, that might do the turbos more favours than any line movement will.Remember when the grass was greener 🌱

i've sat through enough of these "biggest home game of the season" nights to know the buildup and the scoreline are two different animals. back in my day we'd all talk ourselves into an upset after a good win up north, and half the time canterbury would just roll into town and put the boot in anyway. that 40-34 at eden park was a beauty, mind, and the taranaki one had the whole arena holding its breath, but one stung red-and-black side arriving organised is where expectations usually go to die 😄 having said that, i like this lot more than most turbo teams i've watched over the years. they grind, they don't panic. if they're still in it with twenty to go, the crowd might just carry them over. 3 october will tell us whether they're a genuine contender or just a happy story from september 😉Watch as long as I have and you'll get it.
