Anyone had to send ID to bookmaker before a first withdrawal?

Anyone had to send ID to bookmaker before a first withdrawal?
Don't laugh if this is a dumb question but I'm new to punting online and I keep seeing people mention they had to send passport photos before their first withdrawal came through 😅 So with the bookie, when does the KYC thing actually kick in? Is it straight away at sign up or only when you try to cash out? And do they really freeze your winnings for days while they check it? I've got my first little NZ$ payout pending soon-ish and honestly I'm nervous they'll use the ID check as an excuse to delay or muck me around. Also what documents actually pass first time, driver's licence ok or does it have to be a passport? cheers to anyone who can explain it simply 🙏

Not a dumb question at all Josh, every punter hits this wall the first time. With the book the ID ask usually lands when you request your first withdrawal, sometimes earlier if you've been pumping deposits through fast. They want a photo ID, driver's licence is fine, plus something with your address on it. Mine went through in under a day, sent the licence pic and a power bill and it cleared without a hiccup. Mate of mine had his drag out nearly three days though, blurry photo of his passport, they bounced it once. So the real tip is take the photos properly first go, all four corners visible, no glare. Once you're verified the payouts run like normal after that.
    Bankroll discipline wins.

  • And once you're verified, keep expectations low. They'll cut your max stake the moment you win consistently. Source on any bookie that doesn't?

  • no dumb question at all josh. had the same with the sportsbook a couple years back, sent my driver's licence at the withdrawal request and it cleared next morning. seen worse, trust me 😄
Been here longer than some have followed.

  • Is that stake-cutting thing actually true for the bookie though? Feels like the sort of story everyone repeats. My KYC cleared quick anyway 🙏

  • the stake-cutting yarn is true enough, GloryDaysLegend, i've seen it happen to a mate who backed Super Rugby underdogs all season and cleaned up on the derbies. took about three weeks before his limits got trimmed to something insulting. that's the trade-off everywhere, not just with the sportsbook, so don't let it sour you on the KYC side. as for the ID check, i'll echo what the others said. sent my driver's licence photo through on a first withdrawal a while back, done and dusted by the next morning. tip for the young ones though: make sure the photo's not blurry and all four corners of the doc are showing. half the "delays" are just a bad phone snap being bounced back 😉

  • So how do they decide who gets cut then? My mate lost on every multi for months and got left alone, seems pretty random to me 🤔
    Daft questions are my specialty.

  • Not random at all, GrampsSinceKid. They mostly track winning patterns, so your mate losing multis every week was no threat to their margin, nobody trims a punter who feeds them 😄 My KYC with the bookie went through in about a day once I sent a clear photo of my licence, blurry pics are what causes the delays. Back in my day you just queued at the TAB and nobody asked for anything, mind you 😉

Watch as long as I have and you'll get it.

  • I got asked for ID on my first withdrawal too and honestly the wait felt longer than the check itself 😅 mine sat pending a couple of days even after they said the licence photo was fine. If they track winners that closely like you say OldSchoolEst66, would my one clean withdrawal even flag anything? I'm a hopeless punter, more multis lost than won 🤔
Learning from the veterans, go easy 🙏

  • LeeLegend, one clean withdrawal won't flag you, no worries there. They only get twitchy after a few decent payouts, same as any business watching its ledger. Back in the day the whole thing went by post and took a fortnight, so a couple of days pending is nothing really. Send the licence photo in good light first go and you'll be sweet. ah well, we'll see 😄
    Seen it all, lads.

  • Send the licence photo straight away, even before they ask, if you've landed anything decent. Clear pic, all corners visible, no glare, and mine cleared inside a day. The real killer is the pending window after that, nothing you can do but wait it out. Anyone found a trick to speed that bit up?
