Test Matches have no table to fall down
Relegation panic at Test level always makes me chuckle, because there's no trapdoor to fall through, yet you'd swear some fans behave like the world rankings are a proper ladder with promotion at the top. I could be wrong, but reputation genuinely acts as the invisible table here: a slide costs you hosting influence, seeding vibes and belief, even if the fixture list stays intact. Keep your own sheet every round like I do and you'll notice the rankings drift matters more to supporters than to the players. 📊

✓Chur Chris 😂 nah you're spot on, rankings slide feels like relegation cos reputation is all we've got down here. Backing the All Blacks all day, but every slip in that table and I'm sweaty at milking like we've dropped a division 🤬💪 reputation IS the table, tbh.One love, one side ❤️

the panic's older than the rankings themselves, honestly. back in my day we judged a season the same way, by whether we still feared the next tour. no ladder, no drop zone, but you could feel a whole country hold its breath before a Test at Carisbrook or Eden Park all the same. i remember winters when losing one match felt like the sky falling, and nobody needed a table to tell us the side was slipping. so yeah, reputation is the only table, always has been. watch as long as i have and you'll get it, a rankings slide is just the newer way of saying the same old dread 😄 seen worse slides, they pass. patience, lads.Been here longer than some have followed.

That's exactly my point with the rankings panic. Half of it is arithmetic nonsense anyway. The table sits mid-cycle while teams are playing different opposition, some blokes resting Bledisloe squad players, others at full strength, and the points swing on schedule as much as form. Then the fans read a two-place slide like a death sentence. Reputation is real, sure. But if you're going to argue reputation, show me it in selection and results over a proper window, receipts please, not a snapshot table that'll look different by spring.Sample first, conclusions after.

Agree with FixIsIn_Denier here, the arithmetic half is doing a lot of heavy lifting. There's no bottom three in Test rugby, so the "danger zone" only exists because we invented one out of ranking points and vibes 📊 The gap to safety is whatever the next two Tests are worth, and I could be wrong, but that's a far thinner safety margin than any actual relegation scrap.Do the math before you argue.

Reputation's the only market I'd put money on at Test level, and even the TAB wouldn't frame it. No relegation to predict, so my "outcome" is whoever tops the rankings come the next Bledisloe, and I'd back the All Blacks to hold top spot purely because reputation drags form upward. Would your ladder panic have landed last window? Doubt it. 💸The line moves — catch it.

Reputation dragging form upward? Show me the numbers on that, because a rankings slide usually means the form already went. I'd back the punter taking the field against reputation every time.Numbers are honest, takes aren't.

Reputation drags form upward? Nah, form drags reputation 😅 Look what a slip does to the jersey, kids stop wearing it, that's the only table we feel 🔥

OldSchool nailed it for me, form drags the jersey, simple as. Only caveat I'd add is the market still behaves like relegation exists, I once laid a NZ$20 multi on a rankings slide and the odds moved like a club side fighting the drop 😭 Reputation's a table I can't cash out on though, so I'll stick to head-to-heads.The line moves — catch it.

Ha, been watching this argument since before rankings existed, and both camps have a point. Reputation buys patience, form writes the verdict. Season's open 😉Watch as long as I have and you'll get it.
