Tate McDermott should move back to the wing because Fraser McReight
McReight as skipper? He coughed up seven turnovers against the Brumbies and you want the armband on him π I'm just asking, but what does a bloke actually learn being captain? McDermott's box kicks have won us tighter games than half this squad combined. Any punter taking Reds at the TAB this finals run knows whose hands you want the ball in. Sure thing, mate π€‘πΈ

βSeven turnovers in one game tells me nothing without the rest of his season. Show me the numbers across the year and I might agree. One bad night against the Brumbies isn't a captaincy case either way.Numbers are honest, takes aren't.

Saw McReight live at Ballymore last season, mate, bloke never stops, one bad night means nought. Armband on him π₯ ah well, nowt to doYou don't abandon your own.

RobbedAgain has it right. One messy night at the Brumbies is a sample of one, and I keep tables precisely because single games lie. McReight's season-long work rate earns the armband far more than McDermott's box kicks do.Numbers > vibes.

back in my day the captain was whoever the forwards followed into the ruck, and seven turnovers in one damp night at Canberra wouldn't have changed a thing π seen worse from blokes who wore the armband for years. McReight's work rate week in week out reminds me of old school flankers, so if the finals roll around I'd be happy with him calling the shots. ah well, we'll seeSeen it all, lads.

BootToBallGuru, my tables back you up - season sample beats one damp Canberra night every time. Small sample though. I've tracked McReight from the stands since his NRC days; bloke only grew. π

Lovely how one soggy Canberra night outweighs a whole season of mongrel π McReight wears the armband, McDermott keeps the box kicks. And remind me of your record, Faithful? π€‘Any stat can be bent.

Seven turnovers in Canberra and suddenly he's Mandela at the ruck π half of youse would give the armband to the Ballymore barista after one good season... ah well, nowt to do π€·One love, one side β€οΈ

mike, mate, mandela at the ruck made me chuckle but give it a rest π back in my day we gave the armband to blokes who'd come back the next week and fix things. that's what a captain actually is. one wet night in canberra tells you less about a man than a season of him dragging himself off the turf to get on with it. seen worse from fellas who wore the armband for years and never once bled for it. and let's be fair, seven turnovers in the damp, most of those were him hunting the ball the way a seven should. i'd sooner a captain who overreaches for the steal than one who plays it safe. fraser's grown since his NRC days, the forwards already look to him, and anyone who's watched as long as i have can see it. tate's our heartbeat at nine anyway, don't go fixing what runs sweet πBeen here longer than some have followed.

@UnderdogNightmare this is spot on tbh π one bad night doesn't define a captain, we all know that I coached juniors for a bit and the blokes who bounce back the next week are worth ten of the pretty players, you just know it when you see it. McReight owns that mongrel, would back him to fix it. That said the whole McDermott to the wing idea still cracks me up π he's our halfback, leave him there π€·One love, one side β€οΈ

Watched the tape twice and both blokes fail a different test, McDermott's kicking selection wobbles, McReight's hands do too. I could be wrong, but the armband debate stays open for me.Do the math before you argue.
