Fraser McReight is carrying this Reds pack so hard that Ballymore

Yeah nah, renaming a stand might be generous at this point, rename the whole ground. McReight's out there doing the work of two flankers while the big names wander around like they're waiting for a cab. Twenty minutes to go and suddenly everyone's got cramps except the bloke topping the tackle count. I said it last season and got laughed at: build the pack around him and let the "stars" earn their hype for once. Laughable really that we're still picking on reputation. Any punter worth their salt at the TAB clocked this weeks ago, the bloke's carrying more than our whole backline combined. Sure thing, mate, the selection panel will figure it out about three seasons after everyone else does. 😏

Might be right, on condition that someone shows me the tackle stats over a full season, one hot streak means little.

  • Robbed, mate, one hot streak? He's been top of the tackle count week after week while our so-called stars go missing in the last twenty 🤬 Watched it live at Ballymore and McReight was everywhere, been saying this since his first season tbh. Get the stand renamed and build the pack around him, ah well, nowt to do 🔥💪

  • Robbed, I keep my own tackle tallies round by round and even a small sample backs you up less than you'd think, caveat noted, but the trend here is too loud to wave off. Week after week McReight's name is at the top of my sheet while the blokes on big contracts are drifting in the last quarter, and I've watched the same pattern live at Ballymore more than once. One hot patch means little, sure; three-plus seasons of it means the coaching staff should stop protecting reputations. There's a nuance though: tackle counts alone don't tell you whether the misses and shoulder-on contact inflate the number, so watch his dominant hits and the tackles made after the ball is gone too. Even then, the eye test agrees with the sheet - build the back row around him and make the big names earn their spots like everyone else.
    Numbers > vibes.

  • ah, the old forwards doing the quiet work while the flash boys take the bow - takes me back. back in my day at Ballymore you'd have lads like that every season, never made a highlights reel but the crowd knew who held the line. when a flanker keeps topping the tackle count week after week, that's no hot streak, that's just a man doing his job while others clock off early in the last twenty. Robbed, watch as long as I have and you'll get it, one match means little, a season means everything, and this lad's been consistent since his first year. seen worse complaints than wanting a stand named after him, honestly. the big names can find a cab home for all I care 😄 build the pack around the fellow who never stops carrying it.
Been here longer than some have followed.

  • Hmm, funny how nobody mentions the blokes playing in FRONT of him doing the tackling then 😅 McReight's brilliant, no argument, but if our stars went missing that often you'd think Les would've dropped them by now. Bit of swing and a miss in these hot takes tbh 🤷

  • sam's got a point about the blokes in front of him, mind. seen worse defences at Ballymore though, and young Fraser still stood out every time. watch as long as I have and you'll get it 😉
    Seen it all, trust me.

  • Sam, define "going missing" before we hang anyone. Show me the numbers on missed tackles in the last twenty versus the first sixty, because if it's just feels, Les is right to keep the names on the team sheet. McReight topping the count is measurable; "stars wandering like they're waiting for a cab" isn't.

  • Glory, fair ask, and I'll give you the honest analyst answer: the split-by-minute tackle data isn't in the public feed I track, so any "missing in the last twenty" claim is built on the eye more than the ledger. Small sample though, on the season so far, a couple of fading defensive sets gets remembered and a full eighty of solid work gets forgotten. That's the nuance with these hot takes. What I can say from watching the tape with my son every Saturday arvo at Ballymore: McReight's cleanout speed and seam discipline hold up deep into the half while the line around him visibly drops off in shape. Whether that's fitness or Les managing minutes, I couldn't prove from my spreadsheet 📊. But I'd back the kid over the reputation every time. Build around him, keep the stars, just make them earn the jersey.

  • Funny how the same blokes demanding numbers never once asked for stats before piping up 😏 Eye test says McReight's the only one still hitting rucks at minute seventy-five. Build around him, mate.

  • Sorry but where's the numbers crowd now? 😱 Fix admits the split data's not even tracked, so the "missing in the last twenty" bit is just vibes tbh... still reckon Fraser's carrying them though 💪 eye test beats a spreadsheet every day of the week

  • josh, son, i've been watching footy since before you could spell Ballymore, and the eye test has won me more arguments than any spreadsheet ever did 😄 nobody tracked minute-by-minute tackles back in my day either and we still knew who was hiding. watch mcreight at the seventy-fifth minute yourself and tell me the vibes are wrong.

  • Hedge or no hedge, both camps have a point here: eye test says McReight, ledger says we lack the split data to prove it. I could be wrong, but build around him anyway 📊
