My old boy's mate does the gear run at training and reckon's the coaches have been having a proper look at that big Highlanders centre, the one who runs over the top of anyone silly enough to stand in the channel. Second five's been a hole in our side all season and everyone on this board knows it.
Now, don't take this as gospel, but word floating about is NZ$600k might tempt them down south to let him go. They're strapped for cash down there by all accounts. Would you lot pay that for him or am I dreaming? 😏

Good question from RobbedAgainHeter actually, so let me give you my quick take on whether this stacks up. First, age. If it's the fella I think it is, he's the wrong side of 26 now, which for a crash midfielder means you're buying maybe three peak seasons. Second, salary cap room. NZ$600k eats a fair chunk of what we'd need to re-sign our own depth, and I'd rather spend that keeping the lads we've developed. Third, and this is the big one, why would the Highlanders let a genuine midfield brute walk mid-cycle? They'd want overs, and every rival would bid the price up once it leaked. So my read: possible but unlikely unless his contract has a get-out clause nobody's talking about. The coaching group looking at him just means scouting homework, we do that on half the country. Back in my day we had the same song and dance about a Highlanders Lock, everyone dead certain he'd be in the yellow and black by February, then he re-signed down south and we all felt a bit silly. Seen worse rumours die than this one though. If 600k fits and the coaches genuinely rate him, I'd back it, but time will tell as always 😄Been here longer than some have followed.
