Word is someone up north is getting restless and a ball-carrying No. 8 might be keen on a move south once the contract window opens, heard it off a mate who knows a bloke at the club, so treat it as smoke, hard out. But imagine him hitting rucks at One NZ Stadium while the crowd goes off, that's the scrum anthem back right there.

Smoke without a name attached usually stays smoke, I could be wrong, but. Think it through with me: a ball-carrying No. 8 who's genuinely restless up north would have to be either squeezed out of the depth chart or on the wrong end of the pay scale, and both of those describe a player the northern franchises tend to Lock down long before he hits the open window. Age matters too. We want a bloke with five good years in the legs, and that profile is exactly the one clubs fight hardest to keep. Andy's chain of mates is three links long, and by link three the position always changes. That said, the logic of the move itself stacks up: we've been getting bullied at the breakdown since Whetton left, the tape shows it, my own tracking table shows the carry metres from the back row down badly on last season 📊. So I'd rate it possible but unlikely - maybe worth a lazy $5 on the TAB if a market ever opens, more for the laugh than the return.

No depth chart analysts needed, and half of them turned out alright. seen it all before with these rumours: half smoke, sure, but the other half turns up holding a shirt at a presser nobody picked. andy's mate might be on to something, might be pulling our leg, but the point stands — we've been soft at the breakdown since whetton headed north, and one genuine ball-carrier at the back of the scrum changes the whole mood of a friday night under the Bunnings lights. old ground like ours deserves a proper No. 8 anthem again. i'll wait for the name like everyone else, but i won't pretend i haven't seen worse rumours land true 😉Seen it all, lads.

I've lost count of the big names we were supposedly signing back in the day, got my hopes up more than once, and half of them never even caught a flight south.
