Right, lads, we need a proper openside flanker before the NPC kicks
Word is there's a former Blues loosie having a run at Semenoff this week - half the boys at training reckon it's all but done, though nothing's signed as far as I've heard. For under NZ$80k that'd be sweet as cover at openside, and if he turns up in Taniwha colours I might actually put a fiver on us at the TAB for once. Wait for the fanboys to pile in claiming they knew first 😏

✓"Half the boys at training reckon" is doing a lot of work there. Show me the numbers, a name, a photo of him in a Taniwha jersey, anything. Otherwise it's just pub talk at Semenoff.

🔥 imagine a real fetcher ripping ball off teams all arvo... last season we got smashed at the breakdown every week and I nearly lost my voice yelling about it 😤 Josh mate, no name yet but if there's any truth to it, sign him up, an ex-Blues loosie on decent coin under NZ$80k? backing that all day 💪 Taniwha forever 🙌

I keep a wee tracker of NPC squad moves each year and this profile fits the mould, honestly - a released Blues loosie chasing game time is exactly the sort who lands at a smaller province on NZ$70-80k. I could be wrong, but without a name attached I'd hold off; until he's photographed at Semenoff or listed in the squad release, treat it as 50/50 at best. Age matters too: if he's mid-20s with a few Super caps, the logic stacks up nicely for us.Do the math before you argue.

Chris is probably onto something there, that profile does scream released Blues fringe bloke hunting minutes. Only catch is the coin. NZ$70-80k buys you a bloke nobody else wanted, so temper the expectations a bit. Josh, chur for keeping it honest though, I'll believe it when the jersey photo turns up.Numbers are honest, takes aren't.

Yep, coached juniors long enough to know a hungry fringe bloke beats a big name on easy money any day 🙌 If he got let go by the Blues he'll be desperate to prove a point, and that's exactly the mongrel we've been missing at the breakdown. NZ$80k for a bloke with a chip on his shoulder? Take it and run, I say 🔥💪In the stands since I was a kid.

Keen as anyone, but UncleAllDay's "hungry fringe bloke" line - the Blues let plenty of those go and they stay fringe. Small sample though, one week at training tells us nought. 📊

Seen plenty of these "one week at training tells us nought" takes over the years, and honestly half the greats were written off exactly like that. Back in my day every province had a bloke some big city franchise tossed aside, and come round three he was flattening the very coach who cut him. Watch as long as I have and you'll get it, hunger counts for more than a highlight reel ever will. FixIsInPTSD is right that one training session proves nothing, granted. But a chip on the shoulder plus NZ$80k of motivation tends to travel further than you'd think. Seen worse signings than a desperate loosie with a point to prove, that's for sure.😉Been here longer than some have followed.

Chapped me a mate's cousin trains at Semenoff Tuesdays. Says the bloke's hitting rucks like he owes someone money. Good enough for me at NZ$80k 😏It's a lottery, not sport.

Chapped me a mate's cousin trains at Semenoff Tuesdays. Says the bloke's hitting rucks like he owes someone money. Good enough for me at NZ$80k 😏@Model_Head a mate's cousin hitting rucks on a Tuesday is roughly the weakest evidence tier I track, and I've got a spreadsheet that proves it 😄 Contact intensity in an unopposed session tells you nothing about conditioning or game fitness. Caveat as always: one data point. I'd want to see him in a proper trial hit-out before anyone scribbles NZ$80k next to his name.Numbers > vibes.

@Model_Head a mate's cousin hitting rucks on a Tuesday is roughly the weakest evidence tier I track, and I've got a spreadsheet that proves it 😄 Contact intensity in an unopposed session tells you nothing about condition…@BootToBallGuru fair point on the Tuesday session, but I back worse hunches every weekend. Your spreadsheet tier system's all well and good, I run the same logic on my TAB multis and a bloke I've never seen train still lands me a NZ$50 payout off an odd-try-scorer punt. That's basically a mate's cousin tip with extra steps 😄 That said, conditioning is where these "train hard" rumours usually fall over, so yeah, keep the NZ$80k warm and don't sign anything till the man's fronting at real contact. If he does sign, I'll have a small punt on Northland making a proper push this NPC. Bankroll is everything, so it'll be modest.Up one week, down the next. Classic.

Makes me smile reading all this certainty. I remember a certain former Crusader who "trained" with us a few winters back and never signed a thing, whole rumour evaporated by Thursday. Seen worse gossip turn true though, so keep the NZ$80k warm 😉 ah well, we'll see.Seen it all, lads.

ah the mate's cousin school of recruitment, that old chestnut 😄 funnily enough back in the day we signed a loosie off nothing but a good training week and he ended up our best forward for three seasons. so i'll take the punt on the NZ$80k, worst case we've all had a good yarn about it.Seen it all, lads.
