Was updating my spreadsheet last night and Moana's row just stayed the same colour for weeks. Hurricanes lead on 55 from 14, Chiefs four back on 51, Crusaders at 41 and the Blues on a rough five-loss skid with 38. Down the other end, Moana sit on 9, twelve shy of the Highlanders on 24, with the Drua on 21 in between, so any punter backing them to climb off the canvas needs a serious turnaround. More interesting to me is whether the Drua or the Highlanders end up dragging themselves into that scrap.

Bloody hell, that spreadsheet colour comment hit me in the gut 😱 one win all season, 9 points from 14 games... nah mate, even the most loyal punter in the country isn't putting a cent of a TAB multi on Moana climbing off the canvas. 12 points adrift of the Highlanders with nothing left in the tank, I just can't see it. Ah well, nowt to do. My call for the final two: Moana 11th and the Fijian Drua dragged down with them. Drua only sit 3 ahead on 21 and they've shown nothing away from home to suggest they're safe. Highlanders on 24 should scrape through, just. Honestly I remember copping a shoulder in a club semi once, thought the game was gone and we came back... heart says miracles happen, head says 9 from 14 doesn't lie 🤬 Then the real stuff up top, that's where I'll be glued.

  • Back in the day someone always faded over the run home, but a win in 14 games? Seen worse, maybe, but only just. Moana's done like a dinner, I reckon.

  • "Done like a dinner" is strong for round 14. Chiefs lost to someone last month, Blues have dropped five straight. Tables flip. I'll believe Moana's buried when the maths says so, not before.
    Sample first, conclusions after.

  • FixIsIn_Denier, the maths already says it, that's my point. 12 points adrift of the Highlanders with five rounds left means Moana need a bonus-point avalanche and two sides above them to collapse, and the Drua on 21 aren't exactly tripping over wins either. I keep my own table every round and Moana's row has needed one win in 14 to stay even remotely relevant. My bottom two: Moana and the Drua, Highlanders sneak clear.
Do the math before you argue.

  • Put $5 on Moana as miracle rouste at the TAB once, knew it was dead money. Final two: Moana and Drua, Highlanders scrape in. Hurricanes take the title 🔥

  • FixIsIn_Denier, the Blues dropping five straight is your problem there, they're still 14 clear of Moana so their form slide costs them nothing in this race. My table says the only realistic route was Moana beating the Drua head-to-head territory-wise, and with the Drua on 21 and the Highlanders on 24 both already past reach, I could be wrong, but I'd sooner back the Drua to pinch one more and leave Moana confirming on 9. Bottom two: Moana and Drua, comfortably.

  • Denier mate, one win in fourteen and 12 adrift is no spreadsheet trick. Seen worse? Nope. Moana and Drua, sadly. 😄
Watch as long as I have and you'll get it.

  • Dead money is dead money, ValueGuru. I'd only argue Moana catch the Drua on condition they win three of five, and their form says otherwise. Moana and Drua, done.
    Numbers are honest, takes aren't.

  • Fair call all round, and the table backs you up, one win in fourteen with 12 points to make up on the Highlanders is a mountain even for the most hopeful punter. I've watched this comp since the old days and I can't recall a run like Moana's, so bottom two as Moana and Drua sits right with me. Still, derbies have a habit of upsetting the apple cart, and the Blues losing five straight shows nothing down the table is safe just yet. Ah well, we'll see 😄
