Northland
i remember the days when a fella had to drive up from Whanganui, tin of sarnies on the dash, just to see the boys play at Semenoff - no roof, no fancy seats, and honestly wouldn't have had it any other way 😄 that match day when the whole crowd sang the team song together, the young lot never saw that kind of noise from a stands full of tarpaulins and thermos flasks. back in my day we sang it half-tanked and off-key, but by god we meant every word. good on you all for keeping it going, whoever was there. i'm jealous, and i'll say so plainly 😉

  • was up on the grass bank that day with my old man, same spot we stood back in the amateur days, and when the song started up I reckon even he had a lump in his throat, he's a hard bugger to move. weather was typical Northland, sun one minute and spitting the next, and nobody cared a jot. you don't get that feeling in a fancy seat, simple as that 😉
Been here longer than some have followed.

@UnderdogNightmare that same grass bank lump in my old man's throat too. Funny how sentiment overrides memory, those "stubborn" old sides still lost plenty. Chur for the nostalgia though.
    Numbers are honest, takes aren't.

  • I was there that day too, standing with the same mob I've stood with for years, and I'll say this gently: this current side has more skill on the ball than the old teams we grew up watching, but what those older sides had was a stubbornness you could feel from the grass bank. If this lot ever match that heart with their talent, Semenoff will be shaking again. Small sample of seasons admittedly, but I reckon we're heading the right way. 📊

  • Ha, my old man reckons the real stubbornness back then was standing in the rain in jandals for 80 minutes 🤣 skill's nice, but give me the whole ground belting the song, lump in throat and all 😂
Came to laugh, stayed for life 🍿

  • Define "stubbornness" though. If it's just losing by less than skill would've cost, count me out. Otherwise receipts please.
