From Semenoff Stadium fog to Taniwha roars

I remember back when the old scoreboard at Semenoff was held together with hope and a bit of wire, and you'd squint through the fog some nights wondering if the ball was even on the park. 😄 I came up from Whanganui to visit rellies in Whangārei years back and got taken along to a match, a pie in one hand, a flat white going cold in the other, and then the Taniwha haka started and I tell you, the hair on my arms stood up proper. Been following the boys ever since, half a country away or not. What gets me is the young lot never saw some of those wild old nights - mist rolling in off the water, the roar carrying right across the ground. Glad this thread is going, good excuse for a few memories. Keep them coming, lads. 😉

Gisborne boy here but my old man dragged me up for a Northland game years back, that haka in the fog, hairs on end, felt like I was IN it 🔥💪 Ah well, nowt to do.

  • the pies from the old stand, still taste them in my head. watch as long as i have and you'll get it. A haka in the fog does something no big stadium ever will 😊
Been here longer than some have followed.

  • Funny how the old sides seemed to live in the fog and the mud, while this mob play a quicker game on better turf, yet the roar after the haka hits exactly the same. My old man reckons the 90s pack would bash this forward group, and he's probably half right, though I could be wrong. Different eras, same blood, bro, that's what keeps me coming back to Semenoff. 📊 least of all matters on match day.

  • @NickDiehard your old man's half right about the 90s pack bashing them, but watch as long as I have and you'll get it, those boys would run themselves ragged chasing this lot around the park. The roar's the constant though. Fog clears, styles change, Semenoff never does 😉

  • First game at Semenoff I was a kid freezing on the old concrete steps, pie in one hand, dad gripping my shoulder when the haka started... fog rolling in off the boundary and you couldn't see the far touchline at all, but you could hear every stomp 😱🔥 still get chills thinking about it, that ground just does something to ya 💪🙌
    One love, one side ❤️

  • truck driver my whole life, been to more cold grounds than hot pies, and still nothing beats the haka at Semenoff when the fog closes in. goosebumps every time 😉
Watch as long as I have and you'll get it.

  • Lost my pie to a seagull mid-haka once, never even saw it coming through the fog 😂 🍿 that bird was braver than the whole away pack 🤣
    Hold my pint.
