Canterbury
i remember standing on the old terraces at Lancaster Park in a proper southerly, rain coming sideways off the plains, and us singing anyway - louder than the wind, half frozen, wouldn't have traded it for anything. back in the day the whole ground smelt of pies and wet concrete and it felt like home 😄 new stadium's shiny and we've earned it, no two ways about that, but the red and black heart never moved buildings - it moved with us. seen worse grounds and worse weather, and still say the best nights were the coldest ones. what's everyone else's memory? hard out to whoever stood through the most miserable one 😉

Man that post hit me right in the chest 😭🔥 my old man used to take me on the terraces, frozen fingers, singing our hearts out... you just know those days made us who we are 💪🙌
    One love, one side ❤️

  • what a thread this is. i remember the pie stall queue at lancaster park more than any try honestly. Standing there with numb hands, pie burning your fingers just to feel something, while the wind tried to take the roof off 😄 my old man reckoned you hadn't lived till you'd sung louder than a southerly, and by crikey he was right. ah well, we'll see
    Seen it all, lads.

  • Funny, my old man always reckoned the teams of his day were harder, but I could be wrong - watching the current boys train in Christchurch, they're probably fitter than the terrace-era sides ever were. What hasn't changed is the crowd: same red and black, same stubbornness when the weather turns. Different players, same heart, I reckon 📊

  • Nick, fitter than the terrace-era sides? Careful, mate, I could be wrong, but my old man reckons those blokes did a day's shearing then fronted up in a southerly with no subs bench to speak of 😄 I'll grant you the crowd hasn't changed though, mean as, same red and black stubbornness, and the new stadium will hear us just the same.
Do the math before you argue.

Chorus still hits the same in the new joint, southerly or not 😱🔥 my son's there singing the terrace songs I learned off my old man. Red and black forever 💪
@FrontRowFan your old man's shearing story sounds good but it proves nothing about fitness, just about toughness. Different era, different demands, those blokes trained less and worked harder elsewhere; the current squad is measured on GPS data every session, which is a fact, not nostalgia. Both can be true. Show me the numbers before you concede the point to anyone.

  • Worked the bar after the last game at the old park and half of you lot came in looking like frozen extras from a war film, still humming the songs 😂 my boss reckoned we sold more hot rum that night than beer. Whatever they build next, that crowd turns up mean as - carry on 🍿
    Hold my pint.
