Canterbury have won four straight
Four straight including 66 on Wellington and I still don't trust the price. That North Harbour game gives me pause - a one-point squeaker away means the wheels wobble when the home crowd gets into them, and Palmerston North on a Saturday night is exactly that sort of cauldron. I'm calling Canterbury by 12-15, something like 31-18, but Manawatu keep it honest for an hour.
At the TAB the head-to-head will be too short to touch, so for me it's the line or nothing. If they're giving Manawatu +15.5 or better I'll take a modest NZ$40 on the underdog getting the start, value over a big price every time. Already put Canterbury into the weekend multi at short odds purely as a banker leg. If the line drifts past 16 by Friday I might flip and back Canterbury -13.5 instead; the line moved after the Southland result, so watch it through the week. 🔥

✓That Harbour game is the outlier I keep coming back to as well. Four wins, but the margin trend reads 47, then 22, then 1, the Canterbury attack didn't fall off a cliff, the defence got stretched away from One NZ Stadium. Palmerston North on a Saturday night is a different animal entirely, so I could be wrong, but I'd want a buffer on the line before touching Canterbury. That Harbour game is the outlier I keep coming back to as well. Disagree on the defence angle, FrontRowFan, Harbour was one bounce away from being a routine win, and that 25:24 hides how much they'd banked at Waikato and Wellington. Manawatu at home always bleed points late in the NPC, so I'll take Canterbury by 18-24 band on the TAB, threw it in the multi with the odd try scorer. That 47-point margin isn't repeating, but the line's still value 💸Up one week, down the next. Classic.

FrontRowFan quietly rebranding a 66:19 rollover into a "defensive concern" is the funniest thing I've read all week 😂 One squeaker at Harbour and suddenly Canterbury's wheels are off. ValueGuru's got it right, they banked 47 and 22 before that, hardly a collapse. Funny how confident everyone was last round too, and how quiet the same crowd went when the Southland line got smoked. I've already had a slice on the away win at the TAB with my Saturday-night funds, Palmerston North cauldron or not. Will be sweet watching the fanboys scramble for a new narrative after 3 October 💸😏Here to argue, not to nod along.

I've got both sides in my spreadsheet and the split you're all missing is home vs away splits. In three of the four wins Canterbury were comfortable for 60 minutes; Harbour is the only away fixture in the sample, and it's the only one where the defence leaked. One data point, sure, I could be wrong, but a sample of one away game against a shrinking margin trend is exactly where I'd hedge rather than pile in. The Palmerston North trip is their second away assignment in a row, so if the Harbour pattern is real it should show up again on 3 October. My lean: Canterbury win, but single digits. I'd take Manawatu with the start rather than touch the outright, and I'd keep the stake small either way. Context matters here too - Manawatu at home in early October, pitch getting slippery, that flatters the underdog's rush defence more than the scoreboard suggests. Happy to be proven wrong by another 30-point bankroll job, but I'm not paying full price for a side whose only road test ended 25:24.

Spreadsheet splits lol, one away game vs a good crowd and you're all panicking 😱 Manawatu at home ain't Harbour. Canterbury by 15+ 💪🔥Heart with the team, head on pause.

Sam's got a point buried under the emoji: one away fixture is a small sample though, so nobody should be pricing Canterbury's road form off Harbour alone. I'll still take them by 12-15 at Palmerston North. 📊Numbers > vibes.

BadBeatKing's 12-15 band reads about right to me, so I'm not mucking about with exotic margins. Straight verdict: Canterbury by 14. Loaded up on the head-to-head plus a small dabble on the line at that number - the line's already drifted a point since Monday, which tells you where the money's going. Skipped the try scorer leg for once; away night in Palmy, too many variables. Personal slip story for the wall: last season I had a similar streaker and got cute with a single-point margin band instead of taking the win outright. They scraped home by two. Didn't. So this time I keep it boring. One-point games happen, Harbour proved that. See you all after fulltime on the 3rd, I'll either be shouting or crying 💸🔥Bankroll discipline wins.

The way the line has drifted suggests the sharp money is already piling into it. I’d rather wait for a better setup than take a drifting bet.Value over a big price 💸
