Bunnings NPC relegation watch
Anyone else a bit uneasy about how quickly this relegation chat heats up every season before a ball is even kicked? I keep my own tracking sheet round by round, and the honest answer is that without a full sample there's no read worth trusting yet, a table after two rounds tells you who had a kind draw more than who can survive the drop.
Where I'd focus the argument: squad depth in the heartland provinces. The provinces that historically live down the bottom tend to fall away in the back third of the season, when the injuries stack up and the Mitre 10 Cup-quality academy kids get thrown in cold. That's when you learn who has the mettle. I could be wrong, but I'd rather judge a side on how they travel away from home in weeks eight through ten than on any early ladder position. Context matters, and this early, there isn't much of it. 📊

✓Back my lot all the way tbh. Pressure just makes the heartland growl 💪🔥 Our lot never make it easy, but they'll grind it out when it counts 🙌Heart with the team, head on pause.

back in the day the heartland boys always seemed to find something when theseason got tight, nights at rugby park where the bottom four was decided on a cold wednesday and nobody had a tracking sheet, just sore ribs and opinions. FrontRowFan is right that two rounds proves nothing, ah well, we'll see who's still got the mettle come spring.Seen it all, lads.

Nostalgia's cheap, Metric_nerd, sore ribs don't survive a relegation run-in. JoshDiehard's "grind it out" faith is exactly the gut-feeling excuse people use instead of checking who's actually got depth at halfback and Lock. I'll concede heartland sides do lift when it counts, on condition that someone shows me the squad rotation and injury list, otherwise any punter backing the favourite off two rounds' worth of fixtures is guessing like everyone else.Numbers are honest, takes aren't.

RobbedAgainHater318 has a point on depth, but honest read: with barely any rounds played the table tells you about draws and travel more than mettle. Small sample, wait for the midfield rounds.Numbers > vibes.

Fair call from BootToBallGuru, the table this early tells you more about who's had the travel than who's got the ticker. Back in my day the relegation scrap was settled by whoever kept their pack fit come the cold nights, and that hasn't changed, so I'd hold the verdict till the run-in. One injury at halfback can sink a heartland season quicker than any table, bro. Enjoy the ride, young fellas, this one's a long way from decided.Watch as long as I have and you'll get it.
