Bunnings NPC title race: is this the year the usual heavyweights get

Bunnings NPC
Spent my Sunday arvo staring at the table and honestly I can't remember a season where the top half looks this munted. No one's stamped their authority on it, the usual provinces have all dropped games they'd normally bank, and any punter locking in a title fancy right now is guessing. Caveat being the sample's still small enough that one good fortnight reshuffles everything, but yeah, I reckon this is as wide open as the NPC gets.

Backing Bay of Plenty all the way, mate 🔥 We've blooded some proper young fellas this season, why not us for once? Nobody gives us a shot anyway 💪
Heart with the team, head on pause.

  • sounds like things are looking pretty manic again; we've seen this exact sort of open race before, hasn't it?
    Seen it all, lads.

  • Manic, sure, but "we've seen this before" doesn't settle much. Mid-season tables lie because everyone's played a different lot of fixtures, so the leaders' points flatter them until the return rounds sort it out. Anyone locking in a pick off current standings is guessing. Show me who's beaten the actual contenders away and I'll listen, conditionally.
    Numbers are honest, takes aren't.

  • The teams at the bottom are really playing catch-up. The gulf in consistency between the top performers and the ones in the relegation zone is just stark right now.

  • How confident are you lot when the odds keep shifting and there's no runaway favorite? I spent a Saturday loaded up on a back-line multi, thinking Bay of Plenty had too much steam to let the season just... fizz out in a chaotic sprint. It’s definitely wide open, that much is clear from the current form, but for me it always comes down to consistency over a full 80-minute haul rather than young talent or a couple of shock results. If I had to place a line right now, I'm leaning towards Auckland being the ones who make it look easy, even if they don't impress everyone mid-season. They usually deliver when the pressure builds up near the end of the campaign, which is what matters for the ultimate ROI on a title bet. The chances of any of the fringe provinces pulling off a clean upset trophy win are low enough that they aren't even worth touching on the TAB right now, they're bookmaker.

  • watching this thing wobble about like a Dunedin nor'wester day, to be honest. back in my day the NPC table told you half the story by round six, now it just tells you who had the softer draw. RobbedAgainHater318 has got it right, mid-season standings flatter whoever's played the strugglers already, and we haven't seen the return rounds sort anyone out yet. so do I fancy a province? not hard enough to put real money on it, that's for sure. what I'd say is the table's believable as far as it goes, nobody's run away with it, but there's plenty of water to go under the bridge. remember a few seasons where the side sitting fourth in June lifted the thing in the end? seen worse starts from eventual champions. someone down in fifth or sixth might be the one quietly building. who do you lot reckon sneaks up the outside, anyway? 😄
Been here longer than some have followed.
