Bay of Plenty just shipped 45 points to Tasman

Bay of Plenty — North Harbour
back in the day we'd get a crowd at the Rotorua ground for anything with a white strip on it, but I'll tell you straight, 45 points shipped to Tasman has me worried for the Steamers. The Hawke's Bay win shows there's some backbone there, but Harbour looked tidy against Otago and they've only just been pipped by Canterbury. I'll be there on the 4th with my old scarf on, hopeful more than confident 😄

Was at the Hawke's Bay game and the Steamers looked proper that day 💪 but Tasman ran rings a week later, scary tbh. Still backing them at Rotorua though, through thick and thin 🔥 ah well, nowt to do.

  • Conceding 45 one week then holding the line against a Harbour side that just put 32 on Otago? That's a big ask, and the TAB will know it. Hawke's Bay at home proves nothing when Tasman torched them a week later. Already chucked a cheeky NZ$20 on Harbour at Rotorua, free money if the Steamers defend like that again 😏💸
    Any stat can be bent.

  • Hawke's Bay proved little, agreed, but Harbour shipped 25 at home to Canterbury too - one solid Otago win doesn't make them safe. I'd want a bigger sample before writing the Steamers off at Rotorua.

  • Bigger sample? Mate, I put NZ$50 on Harbour at the TAB and that IS my sample 😏 Both these defences are lottery tickets, so whose bounce-back do you trust?
Here to argue, not to nod along.

  • Old Mallowpark taught me that a home crowd counts for more than any line on the TAB 😄 Harbour looked handy against Otago, sure, but Canterbury put 25 on them the week before, so neither defence is anything to trust. Watch as long as I have and you'll get it. Form flips quickly in the NPC, and a Rotorua afternoon in front of their own faithful is worth a try or two. I'd give the Steamers more of a show than RobbedAgainMerchant's fifty bucks suggests.

  • Trust a bounce-back from either lot?? One week you leak 45, next they ship 25 at home to Canterbury. I'm asking nicely which Defence Trust scenario fills your wallet, Merchant? 😂🤡

  • Funnily enough, the last side to concede a pile down south can steady quickest at home, old proverb, wounded team plus a quiet week beats a travelling one. Steamers by a whisker 😉

  • That Tasman night was painful viewing, I'll say that much. But FixIsIn is onto something. Back in the day you'd always back the wounded side with a fortnight to lick their wounds at home. Remember what Colin Meads used to say, a team that's been stung plays angry, and angry beats tidy more often than not. That said, Harbour won't lie down. They held Canterbury to a single point game last week before that, then put 32 on Otago, so they're no mugs - the young lot never saw a defence that travels well, and Harbour away from home is always a scrappy affair. I reckon the Steamers by a whisker too, but only if the forwards turn up. If they ship early points in Rotorua like they did in Nelson, no crowd in the Bay saves them 😄 Anyone keen for a quiet NZ$10 on the home side just for the atmosphere of it?
