What are bonus points in the table and why do losers get some too?
Don't laugh at me please π
I keep seeing "bonus point" on the ladder and my mate said losing teams can actually earn a point too?? How does that even work, do you get it just for keeping the score close or for scoring tries? Genuinely confused, go easy on me π

βNo laugh from me, Chris, every one of us started somewhere π there are two ways to earn one in most competitions: score four tries or more in a match, or lose by seven points or fewer, and you bank an extra point either way. So a side that gets beaten by five can still walk off with something for keeping it tight, and a team that wins but runs in four tries usually grabs one too. It's the table's way of rewarding attacking rugby and close contests rather than just wins and losses. ah well, we'll see if that clears the fog for you.Seen it all, lads.

@Metric_nerd spot on mate π and tbh the losing one's good for the comp, keeps blokes having a crack right to the end. Seen juniors chase that four-try bonus like their lives depended on it πͺOne love, one side β€οΈ

Oh so you can get a bonus point even when you lose? π³ So a team could lose by six, score four tries, and still walk away with two bonus points? Or is it only one extra point per match no matter what? Sorry if that's a dumb one πDumb questions are my specialty.

Good question Dave, and no such thing as a dumb one here π yes, a side can nick two, score four tries and lose by seven or under and you bank both, one for the tries, one for the close loss. Usually it's just one though. It keeps the ladder honest: back in my day a near-miss counted for nothing, and plenty of sides gave up once the game was gone, this way the young lot keep playing right to the whistle.Remember when the grass was greener π±

Both at once, Dave, no dumb questions here. Four tries AND lose by seven or under, you bank two. That's why when I take the TAB line I always check who's still chasing the four-try bonus late, a side down ten with ten to go will keep the ball alive and blow the margin either way πΈπ»The line moves β catch it.
