Twenty Years On: Where Were You When Waugh's Tahs Lifted That First
Twenty years ago I was a young fell camped in front of the telly at my old man's place out here in Rotorua, and when that final whistle went against the Crusaders I nearly woke the whole street 😄 Watch as long as I have and you'll appreciate how rare a night like that is, Foley's boot and the boys holding the line in those last minutes, pure magic. Where were you all that night, lads?

✓Near woke the street eh, same here mate, was crammed round a dodgy telly at my cousin's place, screamed like a nutter when that last-gasp defence held 💪🔥 Foley's boot was pure magic that night🙌You don't abandon your own.

Funny thing is I was at a mate's place in Dunedin that night, quietly baracking for the Tahs because I'd put a lazy NZ$10 on them at the TAB and everyone laughed at me 😄 back in my day you'd never have seen a Crusaders side pegged back like that, and watching the Wallabies lads hold on in those last minutes, well, seen worse, but few better finals. Still get a bit of ribbing for it twenty years on 😉Been here longer than some have followed.

Great thread this. I was in a Whanganui pub that night with a couple of lads who all backed the Crusaders, so I copped plenty of stick until Foley started knocking them over and then nobody wanted to make eye contact 😄 That last defensive stand still gives me goosebumps. I could be wrong, but comparing that 2014 side to the current lot, I'd say the old team just had more hard edges - Hooper fetching, the forwards winning those ugly scraps, and Foley running the game like it was his lounge room. This year's side has more attacking flair and probably a better skill level across the park, but you wonder whether they've got that same stubbornness when a final gets tight. Different eras, different styles, and I'd back this group to grow into it. Twenty years though, feels like yesterday 📊Do the math before you argue.

Whanganui pub full of Crusaders fans, eh Chris? Brave man 😄 I'll stir the pot a bit though: was Foley's boot really magic that night, or did the ref's whistle keep handing him those kickable penalties? Watched it myself from Auckland with my old man, both of us yelling at the telly through that last defensive stand. Ten years on and I still reckon Hooper's turnover at the death is the moment nobody talks about enough.

Nah FixIsIn, ref gave both sides nothing that night… Foley nailed them from everywhere, man had ice in his veins 🔥💪Heart with the team, head on pause.

FixIsIn stirring the Foley debate twenty years later, some things never change 😂 I was on a mate's couch in Blenheim with a house full of Crusaders fans and I lost my voice screaming at that last defensive stand, mate copped a couch cushion to the face and still reckons it was an accident 🤣 Ref's whistle, Foley's boot, doesn't matter, trophy went home with us either way 🍿Hold my pint.

It's crazy how passionate people are about those old games! 😮 Was it just me who thought that last try was brilliant too? 🙏
