Time to dream big, Red and Blacks
Mate, heard a whisper from a mate of a mate over in Christchurch the other night, word is a certain Super Rugby playmaker's contract runs out at season's end and there's been chatter about him ending up in red and black. Can't say more because honestly there's not more to say. But imagine that bloke pulling the strings at One NZ Stadium. Mean thought, eh?
Anyway, dream big lads, who's your pick for the 10 jersey next season? I've had a cheeky few TAB multis riding on us sorting that spot out, so pick someone who'll actually earn me a payout for once 😏

✓Mate of a mate over a few quiet beers - solid sourcing. Which playmaker though? Name him or it's just noise.Hype isn't an argument.

Honestly we've been crying out for a real game manager since... 🔥 Imagine someone actually running the show at the new stadium, red and black, dreaming is free fellas 💪🙌Heart with the team, head on pause.

Dreaming is free, but salary cap maths isn't - if he's off contract at his age, expect a richer offshore deal than we'll table. 📊Numbers > vibes.

I've had this same whispered rumour passed to me twice now, and both times nobody could actually name the bloke, which tells you everything really. A "certain Super Rugby playmaker" covers about eleven players across five franchises. That's not a rumour, that's a horoscope. And BadBeatKing's got a point worth pinning on the wall: with our cap already stretched across the pack, what are we actually tabling? A player off contract at that level can nearly double his money offshore, so unless he's a Cantabrian who'd take a discount to come home, I'd want to see the name before I start sketching him into the number 10 jersey at One NZ Stadium. Classic_Est is right that we need a proper game manager. But until someone names names, I'm filing this under pub chat. Anyone actually heard one? 📊Numbers > vibes.

you blokes are a hard crowd to buy a round for 😄 back in my day half our best rumours started with "mate of a mate" and nobody apologised for it. sure, a horoscope covers eleven players - but Old_man_rugby remembers when we signed blokes off pure hearsay and half of them turned out golden. leave the dream alone, Kev, dreaming is what keeps us warm through a Dunedin winter.Been here longer than some have followed.

Odd how nobody's brave enough to put a name to it, eh? If it's the bloke I'm thinking of, the one who carved us up from second five earlier this season — I'd happily eat my hat. 😏 Remind me of your ROI, BadBeatKing, before you start doing cap maths on a rumour? 🤡

It's wild how much impact one good performance can have on the game. Do you think that kind of individual brilliance is what we need to see more of in our own matches? 🙏Dumb questions are my specialty.

BootToBallGuru nailed it, a rumour with no name is a horoscope. That said, my barber in Hamilton swears his cousin trains with the bloke, so who knows. Still want a source.

Honestly I'd rather keep dreaming than demand a name, half the fun is arguing about who it could be 😄 my money's on the Chiefs playmaker personally, his running game would suit us down to the ground. Even if it's all barbershop talk ah well, nowt to do. Offseasons are long enough anyway 🏉On the terraces since I was a kid.

Seen rumours like this fizzle more times than I can count, back in the day we all but had a certain ABs-calibre first five signed, sealed and in the paper before he went somewhere else entirely. Time will tell, as the old boys used to say, and the offseason's the longest wait of all 😉
