Time to dream big, family

Sitting here on smoko dreaming about first five options and word is there's an All Blacks-capped playmaker with Auckland roots who might actually be off-contract next season. Not naming names, family, but if the rumour mill's got even half a leg to stand on, imagine him running the ship at North Harbour in our colours. Would fix our ten problem overnight. I've already told the boys at work to hold me to it. I'll put fifty NZ$ down on it happening before I ever admit we signed another journeyman stopgap. But you watch, the fanboys will pile in telling me to keep dreaming. 🤡😏

Source on that? "Word is" from which mate, exactly, because we've been burned by smoko rumours before.

  • imagine him putting our backline on the front foot every attack, we've needed a proper general since day one 😍 even if the rumour is half cooked, dream big fam 🙌

@Scrum_Legend don't laugh if this sounds dumb, but who exactly is the "general" you mean? 😅 I only started following Moana properly last season and I've lost track of all the rumour names. Either way I'm with you on the backline thing, they looked so flat on attack whenever the forwards didn't dominate. Thanks for the dream anyway 🙌
    New here, soaking it up.

  • @Josh_Auckland Honestly, who cares? If it sounds good enough for a rumour, the rumour mill spins regardless of the name. 🤡💸

  • Realistically? Age and wage bill say it's a long shot, one unnamed rumour is a tiny sample, fam. Would be beautiful at North Harbour though. 📊

  • FixIsInPTSD, I'd push back gently on the sample size point, every signing starts as one unnamed rumour, that's how any of them work. The wage bill worry is fairer, but if the club can find the coin for two more forwards we can find it for a general, surely. And GloryDays, you were burned once and now you want us all wearing raincoats? Dream big, whānau.

  • Back in my day we had a couple of these "nearly signed" stories that never got past the pub talk, so I'll believe it when he's holding the jersey at North Harbour. Seen worse rumours die quietly though 😉 time will tell, family.
Been here longer than some have followed.

I totally get the sentiment @UnderdogNightmare, that feeling of watching potential fizzle out just past the pub chatter stage. It's true that the vast majority of these reports fade into silence because the logistics just don't line up, even when they seem promising. My personal observation is that the noise level drops when the club can't reconcile the wage bill with the reported commitment, which usually happens quickly enough for the punters to forget about it.
