FINALLY, count me in for the third of October at FMG 😤🔥 Tasman day, Mako coming to Hamilton, been circling this one on the calendar for weeks! Waikato showed something in that Manawatu win, now let's see if they back it up. As a Tasman man through and through I'm nervous AND buzzing 💪🙌

Mate two straight floggings and you're circling calendars already 😱 that Manawatu game was 36 points against the softest defence in the comp, calm down 🔥 Remember when we put 36 on your lot at FMG a few years back? I was there, still hear the Mako fans going quiet 😤 Wellington away first though. Survives that, then we'll talk 3 October 🙌

  • Wait for the Wellington line before judging. If Waikato get anything under 6 away, that's where the value sits. Manawatu win meant nothing. 💸

  • Two weeks of getting shoved in a locker, then suddenly 36 points and everyone's acting like the phurorhea is back 😂 This thread has a life of its own, one decent home game vs Manawatu and half of you are dusting off the calendar. Andy the punter's got the right idea - me, I'm just here for the chaos either way 🍿
    Hold my pint.

  • andy's got the right idea waiting on that Wellington line, though i'd say the manawatu game told us a bit more than nothing. Soft defence or not, someone still had to score 36. back in my day we called that a good day at the office and didn't overthink it 😄 i've seen worse sides than this lot stumble into form late, so i'll hold judgement till after the Wellington trip. lasoo-like at 44 years of watching, one good home afternoon never fixed a season yet 😉
Been here longer than some have followed.

  • Scoring 36 on the softest defence in the comp after conceding 36 and 34 the fortnight before? That's a lottery ticket, not a form line 😂 See what the Wellington line says.
Here to argue, not to nod along.

  • Nightmare's onto something - 36 points is 36 points, soft defence or not. But I've seen worse teams than this lot flatter a home crowd before, back in my day we called it a one-hit wonder 😄 Sit tight till that Wellington line drops like Andy says, then we'll know which Waikato actually turned up.

  • Interesting that 36 came at FMG, not on the road, both hidings were away. Home comfort or just Manawatu being pants? Wellington away answers it, wait for that line 💸😏

  • GoTheDistance has a point I hadn't twigged, both hidings were on the road, and that 36 came with the hill behind them at FMG. Back in my day we called that home cooking, and Manawatu made it easy 😉 Still, seen it all before: one tidy home win after two thrashings tells you nothing till the team gets out of its own backyard. Wellington away will sort the punters from the dreamers, I'll just sit here in Gisborne and wait like everyone else.

  • Funny how everyone's suddenly a Waikato believer after one home game 😏 Manawatu were pants, mate. Which version turns up in Wellington? Remind me of your ROI again?

  • fair question gary, and no i'm not a believer yet either. but i'd add one thing the road/home split doesn't cover: even in those two hidings waikato kept touching the ball, the problem was they kept dropping it over the line. 14 and 17 points flattered nobody, but it wasn't a team downing tools, it was a team panicking. that's fixable mid-season, that's what training weeks are for. mind you, i said the same about a horowhenua side back in the eighties and they got turned over twice more, so my optimism is a poor pension fund 😄 Wellington away will tell us plenty, a hostile crowd sorts the panic from the plumbing pretty quick. tasman at home after that i'm quietly looking forward to though. ah well, we'll see.

    Seen it all, lads.

  • Dropping it over the line is even worse than not getting there though, Metric. You can blame the travel all you like, but 34 points conceded in Whangarei while flinging it about tells me the defence packed up early. Blokes dropping cold at home to Manawatu doesn't suddenly make them a tip. 😏

  • Seen more versions of a team than that in one season than I'd care to count, and I'll tell you the young lot something for free, the version that turns up against Manawatu at home rarely buys you a ticket to Wellington. Remember nights at Eden Park when we thought the Bledisloe was safe on the back of one good half? Waikato keep the ball alive like Metric says, but dropped tries have a habit of finding you again on the road. Ask me again after the 27th 😉
