Right, lads. Who's our new first five-eighth?
Word is a certain Crusaders backup 10 might be off contract and sniffing round a fresh start, reckon he'd slot in sweetly at Forsyth Barr if the money's right. We've been crying out for someone to actually own the jersey for years now. Good as gold if it lands, I say. 🤞

✓Source on that, Chloe? A Crusaders backup 10 sniffing round Dunedin sounds like mate's-cousin-tier gossip to me. Colour me unconvinced until someone names him.

Even if it's just gossip, sign me up 😂 We've rolled out a different 10 every season for yonks. Imagine someone actually owning the jersey at Forsyth Barr. Get it done! 🔥On the terraces since I was a kid.

I could be wrong, but I'd pump the brakes a bit here. A Crusaders backup 10 looking south actually makes decent sense on paper - there's bugger all pathway behind their incumbent, and a bloke stuck as a bench option tends to check his options around that age. We can offer game time nobody else in the country can, which is exactly why clubs like ours end up with these signings. The catch is the timeline and the fit. If he's mid-twenties and genuinely untapped, then paying real NZ$ to bring him in is a calculated punt worth taking; if he's pushing 30 and has spent years holding a kicking tee, we're renting a stopgap for another season and the carousel at No.10 keeps spinning. My own spreadsheet says our last three first fives averaged under a season each in the jersey, so the want is fair enough - I just want a name and an age before I'll believe Chloe's rumour. GloryDays has a point about sourcing, even if I hate agreeing with him. 📊Do the math before you argue.

Funny how GloryDays demands a source then believes FrontRowFan's "makes sense on paper", that's just gossip with a spreadsheet. 😏 And yeah, even Crusaders bench warmers know the south's desperate for a 10.Any stat can be bent.

FrontRowFan's got it right on condition that the kid actually wants game time, not just a pay bump. Watched him off the bench last season. Decent, showed me nothing star-tier yet.Numbers are honest, takes aren't.

Was at the juniors training Tuesday and half our 14s can't kick off both feet - ANY 10 who wants the jersey, get him in 🤬 ah well, nowt to do but wait on the club 💪You don't abandon your own.

@Supporter_Fan three touchlines in the warmup is elite stuff, sounds like he's ready for the Highlanders gig already 😂 Half our first five debate would be solved if we just grabbed whoever can actually find touch. Remind me though, does the 12s team take applications or is it pure vibes?

Funny how "makes sense on paper" has become the new source around here 😄 Andy's got a point - FrontRowFan, that's still just logic stacked on a rumour, and we've all seen how those end (remember the loose forward who was "done deal" two seasons back?). And RobbedAgainHater318, if the kid "showed you nothing star-tier", I'd pump the brakes even harder than you do. We've spent years handing the No.10 jersey to whoever was available, and it shows every derby when the Crusaders' 10 out-kicks ours inside twenty minutes. Context matters, a bench warm-up behind that pack tells you little about running your own show down here. I could be wrong, but if we're signing anyone, I'd rather the club go after a bloke who's actually started regularly somewhere, even a solid Mitre 10 Cup season, than pay a promise. But eh, what do I know, I just keep my little table 📊

NickDiehard's got a point about the "done deal" loose forward, sure - but watch as long as I have and you learn to tell a rumour from smoke with a fire behind it. Back in my day half the signings were done over a few pints at the Captain Cook and nobody had a source worth a crumpet. FrontRowFan's logic stacks up better than most gossip round here. Seen worse options than a Crusaders bench 10, honestly. We've churned through first five-eighths since the days you could count our_tests with one hand. If the bloke wants game time and we're the only offer on the table, that's half the battle won already. The jersey's been up for grabs so long whoever takes it just has to want it - everything else sorts itself out on the training paddock. 😉Been here longer than some have followed.

Ha, UnderdogNightmare, the Captain Cook pints line made me chuckle. Half our best rumours back in my day were settled over a handle and a pie, and half of those fell over by Monday anyway. Truth is we've all got scar tissue on this sort of thing. The "done deal" loose forward Nick mentioned, the midfielder a few years back who was supposedly flying down from Wellington "any day now"... I've lost count. Big names love the idea of Dunedin right up until their agent rings them with something shinier. So my rule these days is simple: believe nothing till he's holding the jersey up at Forsyth Barr. If the fella genuinely wants to own the 10 jumper and not just warm a bench somewhere, I'm all for it, young ones like SeenItAllFaithful's bunch deserve someone steady steering them. Time will tell, as it always does 😄Watch as long as I have and you'll get it.

Honest question from the newbie, go easy on me 😅 what does a first five actually do different from second five? Always mixed them up watching games 🙈
