Right, lads - who do we pinch to fix that openside spot before the

Word is there's an Auckland loose forward coming off contract and his camp has floated a figure around NZ$600k to head across the ditch. Six hundred grand for an openside, mind, that'd be a serious chunk of the cap, but you can see why someone at Ballymore might have a quiet look. Reckon the Kiwi clubs will be onto it sharpish though, so if we want first bite we'd better move before the sniffing starts. Who's heard anything concrete? Sweet as if it's just smoke, but my gut says there's something in it.

Source on that? "Word is" and "his camp has floated" are doing a lot of heavy lifting for a NZ$600k rumour, sounds like an agent inflating his client's price through the media, which happens every off-season. Which Auckland loose forward exactly, or are we bidding blind against imaginary suitors?

  • Even if that NZ$600k rumour's half agent puff, an Auckland openside tearing at the breakdown all arvo in maroon? I'm keen, mates 🔥 rugby🌟

  • I could be wrong, but NZ$600k for a 30-something openside seems steep - depends how you count his age and workload. I'd want a name and a tape review first 📊

  • funny thing is i've watched this game since the amateur days and every time a good fetcher hits the open market, half the forum wants a forensic audit before they'll admit he's any good 😄 back in my day we used to judge a breakdown merchant by what he did to our own blokes at the ruck, and believe me, that auckland fella has left a few marks on reds forwards over the years. tape review? watch as long as i have and you'll get it, you know a proper openside within ten minutes of kick-off. NZ$600k is steep, sure, i'll grant nick that much, but seen worse money wasted on a centre who couldn't pass. if the kiwi clubs come sniffing first we'll be complaining about it all winter, so pinch him now and sort the paperwork later, mates 😉

  • Funny how GloryDays demands a name while sitting in a fan club that trades on "word is" every close season 😏 Say it once with feeling: if that Auckland fetcher's camp is genuinely floating NZ$600k, the Reds should be first at Ballymore with the paperwork, cos a proper openside wins you the tight ones the tape nerds only notice after the fact. Punters on the TAB would shorten our line overnight if he signed, that tells you everything the auditors won't. 🤡💸
    Any stat can be bent.

  • NickDiehard's got a point on the price, though I'd soften it - NZ$600k for an openside on the wrong side of 30 is top-dollar money, and the agent's floating that figure knowing full well a hungry club might bite. Show me the name and his last two derby tapes against proper NZR breakdowns and I'll sign off. Until then it's just a rumour with a price tag attached, and I've paid for worse.

  • @OffsideKing_Gate 600k for a 30-something fetcher? I've seen cheaper rip-offs at a Napier pub ona Friday 🤣 mate, agents could sell ice to the Bunnings NPC 🍿
    Hold my pint.

I'll believe the agent's pricing structure when I see the stats supporting it. Performance dictates value, regardless of what an agent claims after a pub gig.
    Sample first, conclusions after.

  • I've been on this forum long enough to remember at least three "certain Auckland loose forward is coming across the ditch" rumours that turned out to be mate's-mate talk from an agent with a big fish story. One season we were all but booking flights for a bloke who ended up re-signing by Christmas without so much as a sniff at Ballymore 😄 So my advice to the young fellas getting excited: treat the NZ$600k figure the way you'd treat a tipster selling you a multi at the TAB - sounds flash until someone actually fronted with the cash. Time will tell, and if he does show up in maroon I'll happily eat my words at the first after-match shout 😉
Watch as long as I have and you'll get it.

  • ha, oldschool has it right, i lost count of the "he's definitely coming over" yarns i've read on here since the amateur days. remember one bloke swear blind a certain flanker had signed, even told us which pub it went down in. seen worse rumours than this 600k one though, and if there's a shred of truth in it i'd be mighty keen to see him at ballymore getting his hands dirty 😄
