Hawke's Bay
i remember back in 2006 when the boys came out through that tunnel and the old stand nearly lifted off its foundations - you could feel it through your boots, honest. been coming here since my woolshed days and wet saturday footy at mclean park still beats anything on the telly. nothing quite like a pie in one hand and the magpies in front of you, eh. ah well, we'll see what this season brings 😉

Wasn't there in 06 but my old man swears the roar carried right down to the Parade 😂 wet Saturday footy at the Park, you just know it's special 🏉
On the terraces since I was a kid.

  • ah mate, the 06 tunnel roar, that took me back 😄 i was up in the old stand that day with my late uncle, and i swear the timber under our seats was humming like a hive. he'd been going to the park since the proper amateur days and reckoned it was the loudest he'd heard short of a test match. what gets me about wet saturday footy there is the smell of it, if that makes sense, rain on the old concrete, pies going round, mud crawling up the touchline. watch as long as i have and you'll get it: telly can't give you that. hope we get another proper soggy one this season, i'll be in the same spot as always 😉
Been here longer than some have followed.

  • That 06 mob had a bit more grunt up front I reckon, but this current side plays some lovely footy in the wet. Different flavours, both proper Magpies. 🏉
    Numbers > vibes.

  • Grunt up front? Careful, Guru, my old man was in the 06 crowd and he'll box your ears for that 😂 Fair point on the current boys handling the wet nicely though. Few things prettier than a magpie backline carving up on a greasy Napier track. Now someone talk me into a few rows back in the old stand next wet Saturday, my knees say no but the heart says yes 🏉

  • Mate I was 6 in 06 and my main memory of that tunnel roar is crying my eyes out and my mum saying it was the wind 😂 reckon the old stand hummed so loud she felt it in the carpark. Wet Saturday at McLean Park, hold my pint, nothing in NZ footy beats it 🍿🤣
    Memes are analysis too.

  • Never seen McLean Park in the wet myself but you can just know that tunnel roar hits different with a few beers in ya 🤣 current boys would carve up on any track imo 🏉
    One love, one side ❤️
