How do you spot where BK hides the biggest margin in their odds?
I'm new to all this, so I just don't want to get completely ripped off by some big bookie margin, don't laugh πŸ˜…. Guys, I'm trying to figure out which ones to sign up with since I'm still learning this stuff. Basically, how do you know if a book's line on a match is actually pretty generous, or if they just stuffed the margin in weird places?

Welcome to the rabbit hole, mate. Honestly with the sportsbook I mostly judge margin by how far their line sits from the other books, head-to-head looks sharp but the margins hide in the player props and the odd try scorer markets, that's where I've had prices that were clearly a point or two worse πŸ’Έ. Withdrawals have always landed fine for me though, no complaints there.

  • touchline is right, the head-to-head looks tidy and then you wander into first try scorer territory and wonder who they think they're kidding πŸ˜„. my tip for a newcomer is to check a line you actually know, something like an all blacks test where you remember what fair odds felt like back in my day, and compare across books before you put a cent down. also get your verification sorted early, they all want id eventually and it's painless if you do it before you're chasing a withdrawal.
Been here longer than some have followed.

  • Checking a line you know is sound advice, but it stops working once a book decides you know it too well. Every one of them trims your max stake once you show a profit, so the sharp price you found last month quietly becomes a NZ$20 ceiling. Happy to take your money on a first try scorer at a bad number, though. So my warn for the newbie: before you chase the fattest margin anywhere, ask what happens after you beat it. Add up the overround yourself rather than trusting a headline price. Do that across two or three books on the same match and the gaps in the less obvious markets jump out on their own, no gut feeling required. Source on any book not limiting? I haven't seen one.

  • Picked up this habit years back when I was doing night shifts in the cab, comparing the TAB app against whatever odds I could see on my phone before laying a multi. Head-to-head on a Chiefs v Crusaders type fixture always looks fair enough, but wander into first try scorer or player props and that's where they claw it back. I've had weekend multis where every leg was fine value except the odd try scorer leg quietly paid a couple of points worse than I reckoned it should, and that's the difference between landing and watching the ticket die 😭. For a starter, Nick, keep it simple: shop two or three books on the same market before you bet, and compare the less obvious lines, margins hide where you're not looking. Check a market you actually know, whether that's an All Blacks test or an NPC clash, and if the price feels off against your gut memory, it usually is.
