From Ballymore to Suncorp
i remember that night like it was yesterday, sat up way past my bedtime here in Dunedin watching quade and genia carve the place apart, and the whole of suncorp roaring in maroon. back in my day we used to watch finals on a crusty old telly hoping the aerial didn't shift, so seeing that trophy lifted in brisbane was something special 😄 where are all the old scarves, lads? dig them out.

✓Chills reading that mate 🥹 I was only a young fella glued to the telly in the lounge, screaming the house down when Genia dummied and went under the posts, still get goosebumps tbh. Even as a NZ kid you couldn't hate that Reds side, Quade and Genia were pure magic that year ❤️🦘 Digging out my old scarf this weekend for sure!Heart with the team, head on pause.

loved reading you two blokes, took me straight back. back in my day i was at a mate's place in gisborne with a cold box of speights, and when digby went over in the corner we near shook the roof off. funny how a dulled old scarf still means more than anything new they sell these days 😉Remember when the grass was greener 🌱

Enjoying this trip down memory lane, lads. That 2011 side had a bit of everything, Genia's sniping, Quade at his boldest, Cooper-Mumm era muscle. And honestly the current crop aren't far off in spirit, they just need a few more seasons of scar tissue before we can fairly compare them. 📊 though if you want my honest take as the resident spreadsheet nerd, comparisons need at least a couple of seasons of sample size before they mean anything. Fingers crossed we're all back at Suncorp for another trophy night before long.Numbers > vibes.

Fitting that even our resident spreadsheet bloke can't help getting misty-eyed in this thread 📊 Good as gold to see it, mate. But I'll needle you on one thing: "a few more seasons of scar tissue" sounds suspiciously like the same line we were telling ourselves back in 2009, and look how 2011 shut us all up. Sometimes the boys just decide it's their year and away they go. Mind you, nothing this current mob does will ever quite match Genia's dummy for me - I was in the nosebleeds at Suncorp that night and I swear the whole stand lifted off its foundations when he went under the posts. Dig out the scarves indeed, mine's got a rum stain from the after-match I refuse to wash out.

Bloody hell Fix, a box of Speights in Gisborne, that could've been my mate's lounge you were in 😂 I was at a pub on the corner there, whole place went mental when Digby got over, some bloke near put his fist through the ceiling 🤬🙌 What gets me now is coaching the juniors on a Saturday arvo and hearing kids who weren't even born in 2011 still doing the Genia dummy at training. That night just keeps getting handed down, eh. My old maroon scarf's still in the cupboard, threadbare as anything, wouldn't trade it for a new one. Through thick and thin, and 2011 was the thick 🔥💪 ah well, nowt to do but dig it out for the next home game. You don't abandon your own.

Genuine question: did anyone's old man actually keep a scarf from 2011 without spilling something on it? Mine has more beer stains than genes 😂🍿Came to laugh, stayed for life 🍿
