What is TMO and why does the ref still make the call himself?
Don't laugh, but I keep hearing "TMO" on the telly and I still have no idea who that actually is 😅 Is it a whole separate bloke sitting in a room watching replays? And if he can see everything slow-mo, why does the ref on the field still get the final say himself? Feels like the guy with the screens would just tell him yes or no, right? Help me out, still learning this stuff 🙏

✓Quick question (go easy on me 😅), when the ref asks the TMO to check a try, can he only look at grounding, or the whole lead-up too?Dumb questions are my specialty.

No laughs here Dave, good question. The ref can ask the TMO to check the whole lead-up too, not just the grounding, though most requests are about the grounding or foul play in the build-up. Back in my day we just copped the ref's word for it at Eden Park with no replays at all, so trust me, this is sweet as by comparison. And the telly bloke only advises, the whistle stays with the ref on the field, that's the long and short of it.Been here longer than some have followed.

Ref asks for the check, TMO only advises, ref's call stands. My rule: never wager on a TMO decision, been burned too many times 😭Bankroll discipline wins.
