Twenty years on, that 2005 comeback in the final still gives me

I was in the old Lancaster Park that night, twenty years back, freezing in the terraces at half-time thinking we were done for, then the boys came out and shook the whole place down with three tries. The young lot never saw that; even the cheers on the drive home felt like a private party. Still get goosebumps thinking about it 😉 Who else was actually there?

Was only a young fella on the couch back then, but my old man lost his voice that night shouting at the telly 😂 goosebumps even now, what a result 🔥🙌

  • Was on the hill that night, mate, coldest my toes have ever been, then the roar when the third try went in lifted us clean off the concrete. Mean memory 😄

  • I was 17 and had snuck a flask of my mate's dad's rum into the terraces, reckon I spilled half of it jumping when that third try went in 😂 toes frozen solid, voice gone by Monday, worth every second 🤣 goosebumps reading this thread, boys 🔥
    Memes are analysis too.

@JohnBlues spilled rum and a croaky voice for a week, that's a cheap ticket to a memory like that bro 😂 I was too young to have money on it back then but I've often wondered if the TAB odds mid-comeback would've even let you load up, probably paying like a nation by the third try 🔥

  • funny how the cold fades and the tries stay, eh. i was up in the stands that night with a thermos of my wife's soup, hands so numb i could hardly clap by the last ten minutes, and i'd gladly take another night like it even if it cost me my fingers 😄 back in my day we used to stand through whole rep matches at Lancaster Park in worse weather and complain about nothing, so half-frozen toes were just the entry fee. what gets me twenty years on is the noise when that third try went over, you could feel it in your chest more than hear it. reckon the young fellas reading this thread don't quite believe us, do they 😉
Been here longer than some have followed.

My own dad still talks about that final, tbh, pure madness. Goosebumps are real mate, you just know it, when they pull that off, that's what rugby is all about. The way we stick together for those long, grinding battles, right? ❤️🔥
