Right, lads. Who's our dream No. 10 for next season at McLean Park?

Hawke's Bay
Word is there's been a few whispers around a certain Magpies-played-anyway playmaker down south fancying a shift north if his NPC minutes dry up again. Nothing confirmed, mind. Given how our forwards like to bash it up and then swing it wide quick, someone with a snappy distribution game and a decent kicking boot from the pocket would suit McLean Park down to the ground. Anyone else heard anything on that front, or am I just dreaming at this stage of the off-season? 😏

A "certain playmaker down south" and no name? Classic. Show me the numbers on that rumour. Until then I'll believe it when he's pulling on the jersey at McLean Park.

    Numbers are honest, takes aren't.

  • Mate if that whisper's even half true I'm getting the BBQ fired up already 🔥 we were crying out for a calm head at 10 when the injuries hit last year, our forwards absolutely smashed it up the middle all season with nobody to pull the trigger 💪 give me anyone with proper NPC minutes who can control the game at McLean Park and I'm happy, ah well, nowt to do but dream eh 🙌

  • Funny how these whispers never come with a name attached - that's usually the tell. If the fella down south genuinely couldn't crack regular minutes again, a move for game time makes logical sense for both sides, and our forwards did enough work last season to make any competent 10 look good. But colour me cautious until someone actually shows numbers on it; transfer rumours have a shocking hit rate, one confirmed signing in three at best by my own tally 📊
    Numbers > vibes.

  • BootToBallGuru nails it, a competent 10 with our pack doing the heavy lifting is all we actually need. Anyone who watched us last season knows the forwards earned the right to play off the front foot; we just had nobody to pick the moment. A bloke who can kick his goals, take the ball flat, and not panic when the inside channel gets shut down would transform that side. My caveat, though: game time means nothing if the bloke can't handle a wet Napier evening. Whoever it is, I want to see him manage a match at McLean Park with the wind howling off the coast before anyone fires up the BBQ. Give me a steady provincial campaigner over a flash name, every day of the week.

  • Heard the same whisper myself tbh 😂 if it lands, our pack made ordinary 10s look kings last year, get in! 🔥💪

  • Funny how "our pack made ordinary 10s look kings" has become the whole argument, bro — because I could be wrong, but a pack that good also hides a mediocre 10 until the semi-final, when the pitch slows and you actually need someone to slot a drop goal from 30. Has anyone actually watched the whisper fella kick under pressure, or are we all just hearsaying ourselves into a BBQ? 📊
Do the math before you argue.

  • Chris has a point about semis, seen it all before, but back in my day a good pack carried a patchwork 10 all the way to a title. Get the right fella and we'll be sweet. 😉

  • @FixIsInBeliever680 nah I reckon the game's moved on from "pack carries the 10", mate. Semis these days you need someone who can take the line on AND slot the pressure shot. Seen it at club level too, steady boot fellas go missing when the ground slows and everything tightens up 🤬 That said if the forwards keep rolling like last year I'll back whoever gets the jersey all day. Just want a bit of X factor, someone the juniors actually get excited watching. Who's even in the mix tho? Half these whispers sound made up tbh. Ah well, nowt to do but wait and see 🔥

@Josh_Christchurch nah mate you're half right tbh. Pack still wins you semis, ask anyone who's coached juniors like me, forward dominance buys your 10 time he wouldn't get anywhere else 😤 but yeah he's gotta take the line on too, steady boot alone gets found out quick. You just know the right fella's out there 🔥

  • seen a dozen of these whispers over the years, and half the fellas never got near McLean Park. time will tell 😉
    Seen it all, lads.

  • semi worry is fair tbh, seen our lot fall over at that stage too many times 😱 but if the pack's going forward like last year even a steady boot gets us home... just give whoever it is the juniors' running game energy 🔥💪
