If an Auckland 10 was genuinely off-contract and cheap, he'd have a queue of provinces, including a couple of the Bunnings unions who are just as desperate for goal-kicking as we are. Before we even get a look in. Cheap No. 10s usually come cheap for a reason: either the boots are suspect or the sample of good games is tiny. There's a nuance here too: we've been burned by mid-price recruits whose kicking percentages looked fine in a weaker competition and fell off a cliff against decent defensive lines. FixIsIn has it right, no 10 with real NPC minutes goes for under NZ$80k. I checked the union accounts last year over a few quiet ones, we couldn't even afford the warranty on the mower.

StandsGuy88, I'd push back a bit on the tight five argument. Have a look at the last few seasons and tell me a decent goalkicker wouldn't have flipped two, maybe three of those seven-point losses we shipped. A pack going backwards still gets you penalties — we earned plenty at Albany, we just couldn't bank them. That's the cheap part of the ladder to climb first. Hard out, sorting the scrum matters more long-term, but a 10 hitting 80% doesn't need the front row fixed to start paying dividends. As for the price tag. I'd want to see the contract actually before anyone drives him to training. 📊Do the math before you argue.
