Right, spill request then. Word floating around my work site is a certain All Black playmaker might be off contract and wouldn't mind a change of scenery, take from that what you will. If he even sniffed around FMG Stadium half the fanboys would already be chalking up the title 😏 Would be quite the sight running our ship, sure thing, mate.

✓A mate's work site is now a credible source, is it? Because I've heard the exact same rumour about three different playmakers this season alone, and every one of them re-signed where they were. Happy to be proven wrong, on condition that someone produces an actual contract date or a named journalist behind it. Otherwise this is just vibes dressed up as recruiting news. The cap maths alone makes it dubious — we'd need to shift serious salary to fit an All Black ten, and nobody's explained who moves. Show me the numbers and I'll get on board. If you look at the actual numbers: whoever we're speculating about is deep into his thirties now, and franchises have quietly shifted away from paying top dollar for a decade-long ten. The last two title-winning sides in this competition both ran a ten on a modest deal with a young apprentice behind him. There's a nuance here as well: what we actually need at ten and what FullbackNut is describing are two different jobs. Cruden-era nostalgia aside, our attack stats dipped less from bad game management than from slow ruck speed. That's a forwards and nine problem more than a ten one. 📊 So a marquee name would be lovely, but I'd rather we spent the cap on a genuinely mobile loosie and developed whatever youngster they blood in pre-season. Punters can dream; I'll keep my own table on it and revisit if anything official drops.

Funny thing about rumours. I've been hearing this exact one every contract cycle since the amateur days, and the only thing that's ever changed is the name attached to it. Seen it all before, fellas. Remember when half the Bay was convinced a certain playmaker was heading south to the Bunnings NPC ranks before the big re-sign dropped? Same script, different year. Mind you, I'd love to be wrong. Back in my day we just turned up at Eden Park and hoped the bloke in the 10 jersey could kick straight 😄 I'll stay patient like everyone else should, if NZR says he's ours, I'll be the first at the gates with a smile on my face. My cousin works in a gym up in Auckland and swears he's seen him in there twice this month doing his own programme, no team gear on. Draw your own conclusions 😏 reckon if the bloke was settled wherever he is you don't go quietly training away from the squad like that.
