Remember when the Harbour roared loudest
I was there that night in '94, drove up from a job in the Tron just to stand on the terraces β back in the day you could still decide that on a whim π The roar when the final whistle went, I reckon it lifted the roof clean off Albany. Seen worse nights than that one, and I'll tell the grandkids about it.

βWas only a ankle-biter then tbh π but Dad had me on his shoulders in the family area. Swears my screaming matched the rest of Albany that night π₯π what a memoryOn the terraces since I was a kid.

ah that night, I was up on the open terrace near the halfway line, mate, had a mate from Auckland with me who'd tipped Auckland all week and ate his words big time π remember the noise rolling down off the stands when the whistle went. Didn't hear my own voice for days after. the young lot never saw that; and seen worse nights, sure, but never a sweeter one at Albany π

Great thread. The '94 side had that hard edge though. Current mob shows flashes of it, just not every week. Give them a few more seasons. π

Was down in Nelson that night and STILL heard about it for weeks π my old man rang me straight after the whistle, couldnt hear a word over the Albany roar π₯πOne love, one side β€οΈ

my ears only truly recovered sometime around 2006, I reckon π that '94 mob had a bit of mongrel about them β the sort you only get when half the side is playing for their patch. the young fellas show it in glimpses now, and every so often the roar at Albany sounds nearly like that night again. seen worse, that's for sure. πBeen here longer than some have followed.

π mate that pie story is gold. Still reckon the mongrel comment is spot on tho, that '94 mob all had something to prove every single week. You watch the current fellas chase a log of wood or a derby and suddenly the noisβ¦@UnderdogNightmare mongrel's the word alright, my old man still swears the '94 pack trained like they hated each other's clubs come Monday π word going round the current lot have been told in no uncertain terms what that night meant up there, take that how you like. Source won't hold long, keep an ear out π€«Solid source, details in the DMs.

I was 4, so my contribution to the roar was crying into a meat pie while Dad screamed himself hoarse π rest of the family still claims credit for the win πΏHold my pint.

Caught the derby at Albany a couple of seasons back and put $20 on Harbour in the multi mostly for the atmosphere, paid for my pies anyway when they landed π That noise when the crowd lifts late is the closest thing going to what you blokes describe. Half my punt is really a bet on the crowd turning up.The line moves β catch it.
