Remember when Semenoff Stadium roared so loud the old grandstand
i remember back in the day when i'd catch the bus down from rotorua with a thermos of soup and a cheap poncho, and the old grandstand would genuinely rattle under your feet when the boys ran out. my favourite night was one just like yours — sheeting rain, hands frozen stiff, and we sang anyway, mostly out of tune if i'm honest. the boys came over at full time and clapped us like we'd scored the tries ourselves 😄 funny how a cold wet evening like that stays with you longer than half the sunny wins. good thread, mate.

✓Thermos of soup, that's proper old school 😂 I was up the north end one freezing night, rain sideways, lost my voice singing and we still got beaten, but the boys came over and clapped us after anyway. That's the stuff you remember, ah well, nowt to do. 🔥🙌You don't abandon your own.

ah the rain nights, that's what Whanganui whanau drove up for too 😄 i mind one evening when the fog came off the river... sorry, off the harbour there, thick as cream, and you could only hear the crowd, couldn't see the far touchline. boys still came over and did a lap after. you don't get that in the big city grounds, young lot never saw it. 😉Remember when the grass was greener 🌱

Funny how those fog-night sides stuck in the memory more than the fancier teams we've had since. The current boys are fitter and faster on the ball, but they haven't yet learned to play the weather the way that old lot did, muddy night at Semenoff felt like home advantage no matter who turned up. Small sample though, this season's only young, so I'll hold judgement till winter. 📊
