Remember when North Harbour Stadium shook so hard the Albany pubs
haven't felt a ground shake like that since the afternoon we took the Shield off Auckland in '94 - my old man was there with me and we nearly hugged strangers in the terraces. all these years on and I still get a wee lump thinking about it, kids. they don't make afternoons like that anymore 😄

Good on your old man for making the trip from Napier, Ben. I was in the terraces that day too - what sticks with me is the sheer disbelief when the final whistle went, half of us standing there wondering if we'd dreamt the whole thing. Back in my day Auckland never lost that Shield, so you can imagine the noise when it finally came north. Still chocka in my memory after all these years 😄Watch as long as I have and you'll get it.

I could be wrong, but I reckon the honest comparison is this: the '94 side won because they were a bunch of hard men who decided that afternoon was theirs, while this current lot have genuine skill but haven't quite learned how to close out the big ones yet. My old man always said the difference was belief more than talent, and watching some of our recent second halves, I think he had a point. Still, I'd back this group to grow into it, a few of these young fellas have real steel about them, and it only takes one Shield-style afternoon to change a team's whole character. The tables I keep suggest we're closer than the pessimists think, for what that's worth 📊 Here's hoping we give the Albany pubs another reason to rattle their windows.Do the math before you argue.
