From our first win to now. Moana Pasifika, you made us believe
I remember sitting in the stands at Mt Smart the night of that first win, drums going nonstop from kickoff to the final whistle, and the whole south stand just doing the siva tau together like we'd rehearsed it for years. Grown men next to me with tears in their eyes, and fair enough too. Back in my day we never thought we'd see a pasifika club in this comp, let alone one that sings like that.
Still get a bit of a lump in the throat thinking about it, to be honest. Younger fellas on here won't remember the lean early stretch when we copped hidings every second week, but we kept turning up anyway, and that first win made every cold night worth it. back in the day i sat through plenty of cold southland nights watchingTest footy and never thought i'd see a pacific side get a crowd like that. what got me was the old fellas who'd travelled up from the islands for that first win, singing every word like it was church. my grandson reckons the drums are the best part of match day now, and honestly, hard to argue 😄 ah well, we'll see what the next few years bring.Seen it all, lads.

Funny thing is the first-win side probably had less polish but more raw heart, and this current lot have kept that heart while actually learning to close out tight games. What gets me is that the crowd grew with them - same drums, same siva tau, but now families bring their kids who've never known a Moana without belief. I could be wrong, but I reckon that first night bought us the right to expect more, and the lads have paid it back. 🥁Do the math before you argue.
