From Larkham's drop goal to tonight's cold pies at the pub
i was in the lounge back in 2004 watching that final on the telly, feet up on an old armchair, and when larkham dropped that goal half the neighbourhood heard me roar. grew up watching test footy since the amateur days and i'll tell you, that sea of gold in canberra was something else, grown men crying into their beers and nobody embarrassed one bit. been a brumbies tragic ever since and wouldn't trade it, ah well, we'll see 😉

Funny how a bit of grainy video footage can make grown men misty-eyed, eh 😄 I was watching that 2004 final at a mate's place in Rotorua and when the drop goal went over, his old lab bolted out the back door thinking something was wrong. Seen worse nights, mind, but not many better, cold pies and all, wouldn't trade it 😉Seen it all, lads.

The dog bolting out the back door is the sort of detail you can't make up 😂 I keep coming back to how that 2004 side just felt inevitable whenever they were in sight of the line, Larter, Mortlock, Gerrard, you always reckoned something was on. This current mob have genuinely good days too, but they're young and they still let games breathe when they should shut the door. That's no slight on them; most Brumbies teams since the golden era have been the same until they learn it. Give this lot a couple of pre-seasons together and who knows. Either way I'll be at the pub with a cold pie regardless 🍻

Bit rich calling that 2004 side "inevitable" when half of us were chewing our nails at 13-all, eh? I could be wrong, but I reckon inevitability only showed up in the last quarter. Until then it was pure torture, which is exactly why the drop goal felt like a religious experience 📊 loving the stories though, my old flatmate still blames that final for his hairline.Do the math before you argue.
