Word is someone's been spotted in the stands at Addington watching the trainings, and it's meant to be that playmaker with the 78% boot on him. NZ$650k a season supposedly gets it done, which sounds like decent value for a first five who can actually find the sticks. Keen to see if anything comes of it before I get carried away 😏

Righto, since nobody's done the boring homework yet: a fit, established Super Rugby playmaker in his prime years doesn't usually come at NZ$650k a season, and he certainly doesn't come to a province mid-rebuild unless there's a clear pathway to starting minutes. If he's genuinely first-choice where he is, that figure is fantasy. If he's stuck behind someone, then maybe, but then you'd want to ask why his current mob aren't topping that up to keep him. On the 78% itself, I could be wrong, but I'd want the sample before celebrating. A career rate over 80+ attempts tells you far more than one good season on a friendly home deck, and our ground conditions in a southerly are a different exam entirely. Age and injury history matter too; nobody's mentioned either yet. Realistic verdict: pleasant rumour, roughly a 20% chance it's anything. Keep the receipts 📊Do the math before you argue.

Millie, a bloke with a clipboard at Addington could be anyone from a scout to a park coach doing his laptop work, so I'd hold the fireworks there. I've kept a table of tee percentages for a few seasons now, and 78% over one season is a very small sample to hang a NZ$650k cheque on. I'd want to see three or four years before I believe it. There's a nuance here too: a high goal-kicking rate under one coach's system doesn't always travel, pressure kicking for Canterbury in the wash-ups is a different beast entirely. And I'd gently needle FrontRowFan and Josh on the salary point, because they're right but slightly under-selling it: even if the money somehow worked, our lineout platform has been feeding the tee horror show all year. A 78% boot kicking from bad ball gets you 65%, maybe worse. Fix the set piece first, then chase the kicker, or you're just buying a more expensive version of the same problem. 📊

tell ya what lads, i reckon some of you need to loosen up 😉 fixisin, sure one season's a small sample, fair call, but plenty of good men have signed on less evidence than that, half this squad came here off highlights reels and mate networks anyway. if a fella wants to stand at addington in the winter drizzle having a squizz at us, that's more interest than we had last year, and i'll happily put $20 through the tab board at the club if this rumour comes true 😄Seen it all, lads.

haha, the clipboard at Addington had me chuckling 😄 fixisin's right though, i've been watching this game longer than some of you have been alive and i can tell you clubroom rumours have more lives than a tomcat. remember when we were all certain that big league convert was signing here a few years back? bloke was "seen at Burger King on Blenheim Road", turned out he was just passing through to Dunedin. and the year before that the whole bar was sure we had the other playmaker locked in — his manager was "in talks" alright, in talks with an Aussie club. still, i'd rather have a rumour to argue about than nothing at all. NZ$650k is proper money for a kicker, mind, so if the club's serious they'll do their homework and we'll know by winter. time will tell, lads, it always does 😉Been here longer than some have followed.
