Word floating round Addington is one of the Crusaders wider squad locks, big fella about 2.02m, might fancy red and black for the club season. Nothing signed as far as I know, but if he's keen that'd patch the second row hole nicely. Anyone else heard similar? 😏

2.02m and unnamed, classic Addington rumour. Show me the numbers, who is he, how many NPC minutes? Sounds good but I'll believe it when he's in the squad photo.

    Numbers are honest, takes aren't.

  • Tbh we're crying out for a big lock, would be huge 🔥 if true. The kid from the Crusaders wider squad getting some real minutes under his belt is exactly the fix we need 💪

  • Righto Hater, fair point about the unnamed bit, but let me put some context on it. Wider squad locks in their early-to-mid twenties are exactly the profile clubs loan down for club season minutes, a 2.02m frame is rare enough that the shortlist of candidates in the Crusaders system is probably three names long. I keep my own tallies and the second row was where we bled lineout ball last year, so the logic stacks up: he gets game time, we get height. I could be wrong, but my gut says there's something in it, NPC minutes are the real question mark though, because a lad who's barely played senior rugby is a project rather than a fix. If he's keen, sign him cheap and build him. Squad photo or it didn't happen, agreed, but I'd back this rumour ahead of most Addington ones. 📊
Do the math before you argue.

  • Seen worse rumours get blokes signed by round three 😄 give the young fella a go, i say. names can wait till the squad photo, hard out.
Been here longer than some have followed.

  • I stood next to a wall of a lock at training last week and reckon he'd cover two parking spots 😏 if he's the fella, sign him before someone else clocks it.

  • Underdog's right, names can wait. My only caveat: club season minutes mean little if the lineout throwing's shonky - seen a 2m fella cost us twelve points that way a few seasons back.
    Numbers are honest, takes aren't.

  • Paul_Fan's lineout worry is real tbh, seen that exact nightmare too 😱 but nah, if the big fella can jump even a bit, give him the minutes. Can't be short in the row again 💪 ah well, nowt to do till the squad photo.

  • Bit generous calling a training-ground glimpse evidence, StatHead. Height doesn't win you a lineout, timing does, and Paul's nightmare story is exactly why. I'd want to see him jump against real opposition before anyone crowns him the fix. Small sample though: one bloke's shonky season doesn't damn every 2m signing either. 📊

  • fixis, back in my day we signed blokes off one club final and half of them turned out fine. you're asking for a trial against "real opposition" in may when the club pre-season barely exists. That's not how any of this works and you know it. timing at lineout? that's exactly what training sessions are for, week after week with the same thrower. i watched a 2m lad at edendale get picked on potential alone years back and by round four he was stealing our own throws like he'd owned them all along. nobody crowned him anything, the coaches just gave him minutes. give the big fella the same chance, he's free and he wants to wear the jersey. ah well, we'll see 😄

  • haha, seen this movie before, lads, remember the "sure thing" lock we were all excited about a few seasons back who ended up staying with the unions? rumours like this are like the weather in august, wait long enough and it'll change. he turns up to training, good on him. if he doesn't, ah well, time will tell 😄
    Seen it all, trust me.

@FixIsInPTSD fair point re timing but how's he meant to show it against real opposition if he never gets the minutes, eh? catch-22. I coached a junior lock who looked ordinary at training then went full beast mode his first proper game 💪 give the big fella a go and see, tbh.

@Metric_nerd this. half the roster's built off a couple of decent club games anyway. low risk punt, might land, might not, cheap enough to find out 🔥

  • Jack's right tbh, training never shows the full picture 🔥 coached juniors long enough to know blokes flip the switch come proper footy. give him the minutes, see what he's made of 💪
