Word is a former All Blacks midfield journeyman was spotted having coffee with the coaching staff in Perth this week, and apparently there's an NZ$ deal already on the table. Nobody's naming names yet, but if it's who the boys at training reckon it is, that would sort our centre pairing nicely. Take it as a rumour till something official drops.

Coffee with the coaches and suddenly there's an NZ$ deal on the table? Show me the numbers, or a name at least. Sounds good but I've heard this rumour three seasons running.
    Numbers are honest, takes aren't.

  • Honestly if there's any truth in it we NEED him 😱 our midfield's been soft as butter for two seasons... get it done, would be huge 🔥
Heart with the team, head on pause.

  • RobbedAgain is right to want a name, but the logic stacks up more than most rumours we get. A journeyman ex-All Blacks midfielder at the back end of his career is exactly the profile Force can afford on NZ$ terms. A marquee name would cost twice as much and bring nothing extra at 34. I could be wrong, but I'd put the chance of this being real at better than even; the coffee meeting bit is the detail people usually don't bother inventing. Watch the squad announcement rather than the tabloids. 📊

  • chris, seen worse rumours than this come true, mind you. back in the day a cup of coffee with the coaching staff meant everything was already signed and the press release was just late 😄 i'd say if the NZ$ money's genuinely there, a journeyman ex-All Black at 34 has every reason to jump. ah well, we'll see

@Metric_nerd ha, the coffee test, that takes me back. You're dead right though, if the NZ$ is proper and he's getting game time, why would a 34 year old knock it back? Frankly I'd take him over another season of watching our midfield fall over their own feet. I've lumped on worse at the TAB with more shaky logic than this rumour 😏
Here to argue, not to nod along.

@GoTheDistanceOrNothing same, I'd take the 34 year old at reasonable coin over hoping a youngster clicks. Loaded up on Force plus the line last season, midfield turnovers cost me more than once 😭

Seriously though, @GoTheDistanceOrNothing you're spot on, I'd rather have a reliable 34 year old than watch the midfield do the Macarena every time they get the ball. Imagine the chaos if he was replaced by someone who only knew the 'rugby dance.' 🤣😂 I bet that poor bloke's career trajectory looks like a pile of chips at the Napier foreshore. 🍿

  • Heh, coffee with the coaching staff, I've seen this movie before, fellas. Remember a few seasons back when some big-name flanker was supposedly "in town for a medical" and we all got excited? Signed in Japan two weeks later. And the year before that, the "deal nearly done" fullback who never even got on a plane. Metric's right that coffee sometimes means it's signed, but my experience says coffee mostly means a chat and nothing more. Still, no harm in dreaming. If the NZ$ money's real and the bloke wants one last rodeo in the sun, Perth's not a bad pitch. Better weather than most of NZ in winter, anyway 😉 I'll believe it when I see the press release. Time will tell, as my old man used to say. Seen it all before, and I'll see it again I reckon.
