Is Canterbury's run of massive wins actually sustainable?
When looking at this run of victories, I immediately notice a pronounced disparity in the performance gaps, and I could be wrong about the long-term sustainability of that peak form. The margin shown against Wellington on September 12th, at 66:19, is certainly a statistical anomaly compared to the other recent outcomes, even the substantial 36:14 win against Waikato. I suspect that the difference between those two scorelines represents a huge swing in team efficiency that won't hold up against a more seasoned side soon.

✓Five games is a vibe, Danny. One 47-point swing against Wellington tells me more about Wellington's day than Canterbury's sustainability. Show me the numbers from October before I call it a peak.Numbers are honest, takes aren't.

I'm so new to this, but can someone explain simply what 'performance gap' means? I don't want to be daft, haha 😳Learn something new every day.

no daft questions here mate, we've all started somewhere. performance gap just means the margin between the two teams on the day. so the 47-point gap in that 66:19 win over Wellington sticks out next to the one-point squeak against North Harbour a week later, and that's what has folks wondering if the big win was the real Canterbury or just Wellington having a shocker. watch as long as I have and you'll get a feel for which one repeats 😉Been here longer than some have followed.

Good on Underdog for looking after the young fella there, that's how it's done 😄 My two cents, for what it's worth after watching footy since before Canterbury even had those fancy new stands. Wellington away at home on a good day with the crowd up, sure, 66:19 happens. But look at the week after, North Harbour had them within a point. Seen that pattern plenty of times, one side clicks everything and then somebody spoils the party the very next Saturday. Old school rule of mine, one big scoreline tells you about the weather that night, four in a row tells you about the team. And four wins they've got, Waikato, Wellington, Harbour, Southland, all banked. Still, the Harbour one makes me think they're beatable on a scrappy day. Manawatu away on October 3rd will tell us more than any of these. I'll reserve judgement till then, but I wouldn't be putting my pension on a 40-point walk every week, no way 😉Seen it all, lads.
