Dreaming out loud: who's our dream signing at second five-eighths for
Word is going round the pub that a certain All Blacks midfield star could be off contract come 2026, and that Tana might be having a quiet word. Nothing confirmed, before the fanboys start sharpening the pitchforks. If it's true I'd happily find NZ$800k under the couch cushions for him, wouldn't you? 😏

Had a look at the usual midfield market before getting excited. Small sample warning, but the 2026 off-contract list is thin at second five, and the blokes who fit our profile tend to re-sign with their provinces well before the window opens. Age matters too, one big season past 30 and NZ Rugby starts hedging. I'd put it at a long shot, lovely pub chat though 📊Numbers > vibes.

Rob asked the right questions and got no answers, funny that. BootToBallGuru's point about midfields re-signing early rings true, I watched exactly that play out with a bloke I know at our club level, contract locked a year out. Sounds good but until Tana fronts a camera I'd keep the NZ$800k in the war chest.Numbers are honest, takes aren't.

This pub rumour brought back a memory for me. Back in my day the same whispers went round about a big-name five-eighth supposedly headed south, everyone down at the club talking about it for months, and come the day he re-signed with his lot before a single photo was taken. Seen worse rumours, but I've also seen plenty die quietly. Time will tell, as the old saying goes. If Tana does get him through the door for that sort of NZ$800k, I'll happily eat my words and buy the first round. Until then I'll keep my feet on the ground and my TAB multi away from anything involving transfer gossip 😄Been here longer than some have followed.
