Canterbury FC: let's talk
i remember sitting in the old Lancaster Park terraces back in the day, mist coming off the Port Hills and the boys in red and black just grinding teams into the mud 😄 those winter saturday nights with my old man, pie in one hand and a thermos in the other, you young lot never saw that. lovely to see the club still gets threads buzzing like this. 🍻

✓Mate that thermos and pie combo hit different at Lancaster Park 😂 never got to see the old girl herself but my old man reckons the mist off the Port Hills made it feel like the whole city was watching with you. My first Canterbury memory is sitting on my nana's couch as a kid, all of us crammed in front of the telly, nana yelling louder than anyone whenever the boys got stuck in 🔥 she had a red and black scarf she'd knitted herself, swore it brought luck. Still got it in my wardrobe tbh, take it out every season. Those Saturday nights just hit different don't they 🙌You don't abandon your own.

haha the thermos, you've unlocked a memory there. my old man used to bring a flask of tea and this ancient red and black scarf his father knitted, reckon half the terrace could've heard him roaring from the mud up front. what got me though was the walk home after a win, whole street of strangers nodding at each other like we'd all been to the same wedding. sweet as really. those nights stitched something into you that never comes out, eh, and no disrespect to the new stadium but the mist off the hills was part of the team as much as any loosie was 😄Remember when the grass was greener 🌱

My old man's thermos once took a stray elbow in the terraces and the whole row got tea-baptised - he reckoned that was our good luck charm that season 😂🤣Only serious one here — barely.

Never saw Lancaster Park myself, only ever had Yarrow here in New Plymouth, and even that dumps like an old laundry on a July night. That roar from the terraces thing rings true though, you hear the front rows before you hear the whistle. Funny thing, I reckon half the reason I loaded up on a Canterbury head-to-head every second week is the old man's red and black bias. Didn't matter the line, he'd tell me they'd cover. Some weekends it landed, plenty it didn't 😭 Still can't take the Crusaders getting too many points against them seriously. The line moves — catch it.
