Brumbies
i remember watching that 2004 final from my lounge down here, radio on for the commentary as backup in case the telly packed in - old school habits from the amateur days 😄 mortlock's boot that night was something else, and you could hear the bruce crowd through the screen. anyone here actually make the trip over? ah well, we'll see who owned up to it.

Radio as backup 😄 proper old school mate. I was flatting in Wellington back then, crammed round a dodgy telly with my Brumbies-loving flatmate, and even as a Hurricanes man through and through I was yelling at that Mortlock drop out 💪 that Bruce crowd noise gave me chills through the screen tbh, what a result that night was 🔥

  • back in my day we listened to finals on the wireless at the pub, so a telly was luxury 😄 that bruce crowd noise through the screen still gives me chills, seen worse nights for sure
Been here longer than some have followed.

  • I keep my own comparison of eras and even I'd say the 2004 side sits in a tier of its own. That team had survivors everywhere: Mortlock's boot, Gregan running the show, Smith smashing everything. The current mob has real weapons and I reckon they're building towards something, but they haven't put together the full season those boys did. Good problem to have though, watching them chase that standard each week 📊
    Numbers > vibes.

  • BadBeatKing, you can keep your era comparison tables in the drawer for once 😄 I could be wrong, but half the tier-one talk comes down to Mortlock lining up everything off the tee that night - any other kicker and we're all remembering a much tighter final. And yeah nah, nothing through a screen beats actually being at Bruce; anyone here lucky enough to have been in the flesh?
Do the math before you argue.

  • Mortlock off the tee that night was pure ice tbh, every kick right in front of that roaring Bruce crowd 💪 scared of goals? nah. Remember the juniors here still copying his routine, ah well, nowt to do

  • Mortlock's routine was so slow my mate reckons he nipped to the chippy between kicks 🤣 I was 5, so my memory of 2004 is mostly the sofa. Great, carry on 😂
Only serious one here — barely.

  • @Lee_Fan sofa memory or not, that routine drove us mental but you just knew he was gonna slot it every time 😅 ice in his veins 💪
Heart with the team, head on pause.
