Word is a certain All Blacks playmaker comes off contract in 2026 and someone over here is dangling NZ$1.2 million at him... 👀 I know which five-eighth I'd build a season multi around if that landed. And in reality - would RA even get that cheque signed, or is this just pub talk? 😏

😄 I was at that pub when the story first did the rounds and even I didn't believe it, but imagine him pulling the strings behind our pack, our halves have been flaky for years and one cool head fixes half the table rn. NZ$1.2m is a lot for RA to find tbh, but if there's any cheque worth signing, it's that one 💭 Through thick and thin with whatever 10 we've got, but this one would make me cry happy tears 🙏You don't abandon your own.

I could be wrong, but the age profile is what kills it for me, any All Blacks playmaker worth NZ$1.2m off contract in 2026 will be the wrong side of 30 by the time he pulls on the sky blue, and historically those crossings-the-ditch deals for test halves have returned maybe one success in five. Position matters too: NZR would rather eat the cap hit than lose a ten to an Australian rival, especially one they'll face in Super Rugby twice a year. Context matters on the RA cheque as well. They're stretching to fund two franchises right now, and NZ$1.2m for one aging playmaker is roughly what you'd spend on two quality signings across the spine. Cool head behind the pack? Absolutely what we need. This particular cool head at that price? I'd take the under on that TAB market every time. Fix it through the pathway instead.

Sign him if the moneys there, but nah mate, that pub story gets bigger every retelling 😅 RA couldn't sign off NZ$1.2m for a marquee centre let alone a five-eighth, we all know how the cheque-writing goes. Even if it happened, why would an All Blacks playmaker walk over here for a pack that's been rolled at scrum time half the season? Fix the set piece first, then chase the fancy name 🤬

had a good chuckle reading this lot, reminds me of every off-season since the professional days. we've been down this pub story road before, eh - remember when everyone swore a certain Wellington playmaker was headed our way because "a mate of a mate saw him at a real estate agent in Sydney"? fell over within a month. and the big-money winger rumour a few years back, that one got told with such confidence even the papers ran it, and nothing ever came of it. the young lot never saw that era when these whispers used to die quietly, now they live forever on the internet 😄 NZ$1.2m from RA for an all black still holding a test jersey? i'd want to see the signed contract before i believed it. still, stranger things have happened across the ditch. time will tell, as it always does. i've got the patience for it anyway, been waiting on a settled five-eighth since i retired, what's another season or two 😉Remember when the grass was greener 🌱
