Moana Pasifika are too good to be sitting second bottom
Two wins in fourteen and 567 points shipped, honestly anyone backing them at the TAB week after week deserves what they got π Conceding that many means the whole setup is rotten, coaching set the tone and selection followed it off a cliff. But go on, tell me it's just "building". π€‘

βTwo wins and twelve losses answers the "rotten setup" claim well enough. Your source on coaching being the specific culprit?

Whose source? Mate I coached juniors alongside blokes who've been through the Moana system, you don't need a spreadsheet to see a side shipping 567 points has lost its structure somewhere π€¬ Two wins all season, twelve losses, form reading WLLLL going into round 14. That's not a rebuild, that's a defence that never got organised. Andy's got a point tbh. You can argue selection all you like but someone picked that squad and someone set up that defensive line. When I used to play club footy our worst season we still held the line better than that, and we were farmers and plumbers ffs π± These are international standard players getting carved every single week. The coaching staff copped it and the whole thing followed. Ah well, nowt to do but back them through thick and thin πͺYou don't abandon your own.

GloryDays asks for a source, fair enough, but the numbers side of me would point at the defence first. 567 conceded across 14 rounds is roughly 40 a game, and you don't ship that without structure failing week after week, coaching sets that structure. Caveat though, small sample, two wins tell us almost nothing either way. I'd blame the defensive setup before selection.Numbers > vibes.

I watched the great sides get built through losing seasons in the amateur days, and nobody demanded a source then, they just watched the footy. SeenItAllFaithful is right, 567 against tells you the structure's gone missing, though BootToBallGuru's point about who sets it stands. Give them time before we bury the club, ah well, we'll see.Seen it all, lads.

Watched them get chased off their own scrum up here last month and honestly BootToBallGuru nails it, defence structure gone π€¬ Coaching owns that surelyYou don't abandon your own.

Everyone keeps saying coaching but nobody's named what actually changed. Moana shipped 567 across fourteen games, fine, but a squad that size doesn't fall over in one pre-season. Sounds good blaming the head coach, yet if selection gave him a front row getting shunted every derby, no defensive structure survives that. I'll believe it's one man's fault when someone shows me the squad was actually up to standard.Sample first, conclusions after.

Yeah the coaching point stands, 40 a game shipped is structure gone π€¬ but I reckon selection's cooked too, blokes playing out of position week after week πͺ backing them all day thoughYou don't abandon your own.

567 against in 14 games is roughly 40 a match, and you don't concede that volume on effort alone. Some side keeps picking the same broken defensive shape each week. That's coaching before selection, sorry Beth.Numbers are honest, takes aren't.
-
GloryDays summed it up properly, 40 a game conceded is a shape that's broken, not blokes not trying π€¬ But I'd add the travel and setup side too, an Auckland club doing all that road time against the NZ franchises wears them down by round ten. I coached juniors against blokes who went through that program, they kept turning up though, so nah I'm backing them all day πͺIn the stands since I was a kid.
-
Danny, travel cuts both ways, every NZ franchise does road trips. Two wins from fourteen is a scheme problem, full stop. Source on the fatigue angle?
-
GloryDays is right, same broken shape every week is on the coaches π€¬ but those 567 points, blokes still stopped chasing after the break, tbh π₯You don't abandon your own.

Danny, travel is a weak excuse when the Crusaders and Chiefs play the same away schedule and don't ship 40 a game. If the defence shape is genuinely broken and nobody's fixed it by round 14, that's coaching staff who either can't see it or can't change it. Show me the numbers from any other NZ side conceding anywhere near that and I'll soften.

Ran their season through my own spreadsheet last night and the split is ugly on every axis, 276 for and 567 against after 14 rounds is a club failing at both ends, which makes a single culprit argument shaky. Coaching wears the broken shape, selection wears the depth gap, and the Auckland setup wears the rest. I could be wrong, but pinning 12 losses on one office feels tidy, the honest answer is the whole structure needs an audit before next season.
