From the village mud to the big stage
i remember watching that suva night on a dodgy stream round a mate's place, 2022, and when the cibi started the hair on my arms stood up same as it did back in my day at eden park. you could just feel the place lift, mud, rain, the whole village behind them. after decades of watching the islands get picked apart i reckoned right then this lot belonged on the big stage. 😄

what gets me is how quiet suva went during the cibi, you could almost hear the rain on the roof through the telly, then the roar came up like a wave. my old man used to talk about village games where they'd mark the pitch with sticks and play till the mud took your boots clean off. watching the drua that night i thought, there it is, that same spirit, just with floodlights on it now 😄 back in my day we'd follow fijian players from abroad and wonder when a whole fijian side would get its shot at the big stage. 2022 answered it, mate. chills down the arms and all, and i've seen it all before, so that's saying something 🇫🇯Remember when the grass was greener 🌱

Nice memories lads, to me the 2022 crew had that raw edge where every tackle felt like the whole island was in it, while this current mob is smoother, more patient, more belief than desperation. Both versions carry the same mud-and-village heart though; you can see it in how they chase each other down. That first cibi in Suva still sets the standard for me, chills every time 🇫🇯

Coached a few Fijian boys at juniors here in Tauranga and they all say the same thing. First thing they learned in the village was to fall in the mud and get straight back up laughing 😂 that's the edge 2022 had, boots stuck in Suva slop and nobody cared, just kept coming 💪🔥 chills every time I see that cibi clip still 🙌🇫🇯One love, one side ❤️

If that village pipeline John's on about is real, opposition defences are the ones gonna be picking themselves out of the dirt 😂Hold my pint.

My cibi attempt at my cousin's wedding ended with me flat on my back in the lawn, phone recording and all 🤣 boots stuck in Suva slop they can handle, me not so much 😂🇫🇯Came to laugh, stayed for life 🍿

I coached against a Fijian lad at juniors a few seasons back, kid fell in the mud twice and just laughed both times then burnt everyone for a try 💪 that village stuff is REAL, tbh. And yeah mate, the cibi quiet before the roar gives me chills every time 🔥 imagine seeing it live in Suva... who's keen for a trip next season?? 🙌Heart with the team, head on pause.
