From the Stand at Albany: Those North Harbour Nights That Made Us
ah, this thread is dangerous for an old fella like me, the memories come flooding π remember the nights when the place was chocka and you could feel the noise rolling right down onto the motorway - the young lot never saw that, halfway across the shore you'd know Harbour were playing. i watched test rugby back when Albany was all farmland, so to see our own ground fill up like that, blokes in blue and white as far as the eye could see... that made you believe alright. the shield week in 06 everyone talks about was something special, but for me any old friday night under those lights with a pie and the family around me takes some beating π

βπ mate I was on Oteha Valley Rd in '06 with the old man, whole street in blue and white, felt like the whole North Shore was one voice. sweet as days π₯π΅You don't abandon your own.

you're both taking me back now π '06 was special, no doubt, but the night that got me was the shield challenge years before, queueing up outside from the afternoon, fellas selling scarves off the boot of a car and strangers buying each other pies. whole place singing before kickoff even started, ah well, we'll see if the young lot ever get a night like that.Seen it all, lads.

Interesting thread to compare eras in, because I could be wrong but the '06 side had that settled core you knew by name, whereas the current mob are still patching the XV together each week with injuries and loans. Hard to love a team you can't memorise, if that makes sense. The roar will come back though, it always does when the results land. πDo the math before you argue.

Chris has a point about memorising the XV. My TAB multis fall over every week because I can't trust Harbour's team sheet anymore, keep going back to the old sides I actually knew. Still, put a tenner on them at home last month purely off nostalgia and it landed, so maybe the heart knows something the form guide doesn't πΊBankroll discipline wins.

But I'll turn up and cheer anyway, ah well, nowt to do π₯πͺHeart with the team, head on pause.

old school teams had a way of just running and winning without all the drama, didn't they. you could feel the core of the squad, a real bit of community feel to it. now it's always a patchwork job, bless them, but the spirit is still there somehow. ah well, we'll see.Remember when the grass was greener π±
