Forget the imports, the Force should build the whole squad around WA

Western Force
Watched us this season and the best stretches came when the WA club lads were on. Everyone in the stands knew it, but apparently the recruitment desk missed it. Why exactly are we throwing marquee NZ$ money at blokes who wave goodbye after twelve months while the local boys who actually bleed for the jersey sit on minimum deals? In reality? One-year mercenaries are a lottery, and I'd rather lose a finals spot with our own than win one with a rental squad 😏 Half our mobs on here will cry "but the imports win games" - do they? The footy that made me actually enjoy my Saturday arvo came off the bench stacked with WA lads. Funny how that keeps getting ignored 🤡

Everyone "knew it" from the stands, sure, but a few good bench stints against tired legs doesn't outweigh a full season of data. Show me the numbers over 80 minutes, not vibes.
    Numbers are honest, takes aren't.

  • Numbers vs vibes?? The lads ran the NSW Waratahs ragged in that derby stint, you could SEE it 😤 Paying NZ$ for one-year marquee mercs while local boys bleed for the jersey, nah, back them all day 🖤💛
Heart with the team, head on pause.

  • Skeptic's got a point about small samples, I could be wrong, but that Waratahs derby spell was against a full-strength pack, hardly tired legs. Stack the WA lads and see. 📊
Do the math before you argue.

  • Funny, this thread takes me back to watching state lads come through club footy in the amateur days, the jersey meant everything then, and the boys who bled for it were worth ten mercs passing through. That Waratahs derby spell didn't look like tired legs to me either, mate. Give the WA boys a proper go, I say; seen worse risks than trusting your own. 😉

Watch as long as I have and you'll get it.

  • I'd put actual money on the WA lads outperforming the mercs next season, and the TAB would probably laugh at the odds 😂 Skeptic wants 80-minute data, but funny how every bloke on big NZ$ coin suddenly "leaves after one year" before any proper sample builds up. Build it around the boys who'd stay for a carton of beer, wait for the fanboys of the marquee names to pile in 🤡💸
Here to argue, not to nod along.

  • Nah hold on, "costs us the finals" is doing a lot of heavy lifting 😱 The Tahs spell was 20 mins vs tired legs, remember? I was there, everyone was gassed ah well, nowt to do 🔥

  • Fair points both ways, but the sample's still too thin to sack the recruitment desk over. Give the WA lads a full pre-season and then we'll see.

@FixIsInPTSD yeah sweet, one pre-season and we judge, fair enough 😂 I'll be the bloke with popcorn if the WA boys turn up fit, that's why I'm here 🍿
    Hold my pint.

  • What good is the hype if the team structure is still a gamble? The variability in the squad makes settling the line tough, which is terrible for the punters trying to get good ROI. It’s hard to even gauge the proper market odds until you see how those domestic guys handle the pressure over a full season.
Value over a big price 💸

  • Sounds good but a full pre-season is exactly what people said last year too, and here we are. One decent 20-minute spell against tired legs doesn't make a recruiting philosophy. I'll ask the obvious: which WA club products are actually pushing Super Rugby selection right now, because I can't name them?
