Dreaming out loud: who's our next monster lock to boss the lineout
Seen a young tall second-rower in the NPC this season throwing up a storm, word is he's taking something like 92% of his own lineout ball and he's 2.06m, which is proper monster territory. Not naming him yet, don't want the tabloids rounding him up before selectors do 😏 anyone else clocked him? Otherwise Brodie's boots stay unfilled and that'd be a crying shame, eh.

😂 mate why wouldnt I back him?! I watched a guy boss a lineout like that years ago at Lansdowne park playing (club days lol, nowhere near that level) and even at OUR standard having a jump-dominant second row changes everything. Takes pressure off the halfback, gives us attacking maul platform, halves can throw risky cross-calls feeling safe 💪🔥 get him sussed NOW in case foreign clubs poach him! If Robb wont name him fine but c'mon lads let's figure it ourselves 🙌 we ARE the eyes here honestly hahaHeart with the team, head on pause.

RobbedAgainHater318 has a point on the sample, a few NPC rounds is small sample though, and one wind-affected game in Invercargill can swing that 92% by plenty. That said, a 2.06m second-rower winning his own throws consistently at NPC level is exactly the profile you want behind Brodie; my gripe is the timeline, since a kid that green is probably two or three seasons from test readiness. Name him and let's look at the tape properly 📊

That said, I'll bite: name him, list the fixtures, and I'll happily watch the tape myself. Seen enough North Harbour v Northland lineouts from the Embankment end to know when a second row is genuinely calling the shots versus just being tall near the ball. Tall gets you the lift; calling and timing gets you the jersey. Until someone produces the receipts, I'm backing the scouts over the whisper.Numbers are honest, takes aren't.

SamUltra, mate, club lineouts at Lansdowne is a long way from marking a test-calibre jumper with the ABs pattern on your own throw, I'd pump the brakes before anointing anyone. Two things bother me about this 92% figure. First, nobody's told us whether that's contested takes or just his own throws where his hooker got it in nicely; a setup with two strong lifters can make a modest jumper look like a giant. Second, and I could be wrong, but an NPC table keeper like me wants to see how he travels when the wind comes across Cook Strait or a proper lift-and-steal specialist targets him for three weeks straight. GloryDaysOrNothing's maths stacks up though. Twentyish takes in two rounds is a rumour wearing a calculator, nice line. chris, you'd have pumped the brakes on brodie too back in the day, i reckon 😄 every great lock started as a kid winning nothing but NPC throws. and small samples cut both ways - one windy arvo down here can wreck a stat, sure, but it can't fake twenty clean takes either. name him and let the lad sink or swim, ah well, we'll see.Seen it all, lads.

Saw the big fella myself a couple weeks back. Went to an NPC game with mates and he was clearing his own ball all night, barely even contested 😂 metric's got it right, twenty clean takes isn't luck. But I'll join the skeptic club till someone actually drops the name and province 🤡Any stat can be bent.

I remember a winter night years back when everyone at the club was carrying on about some towering jumper down south, "the next Thorn" they reckoned. Never heard of him again. 😄 That's the thing with these rumours, fellas. I've been watching NPC hopefuls since the amateur days and there's been a dozen of these mystery monsters who were going to boss the lineout for a decade, and most of them ended up driving trucks like me. Height and a hot stat gets the talk going quick, but test footy's a different animal, markthat at Eden Park and see who still catches clean. So yeah, time will tell. Name and province first, then we'll argue about whether he's the real deal or just another tall story. 😉Watch as long as I have and you'll get it.
