Southland's home form is coming through against Northland next month

Southland
Southland pulling off that Bay of Plenty win at Invercargill Rugby Park recently sets a proper tone for the big fixture against Northland on October 2nd. With that home momentum, I’m putting money on a Southland side that can manage the line against the Blues. I reckon a Southland win outright on the TAB is value right now, especially if the odds are decent before the game kicks off. 💸

Momentum? Check the away column first. Southland have lost three on the trot on the road, 24:47 at Counties Manukau, 19:55 to Taranaki, then 21:34 at Canterbury, and the only win in the sample is that 43:12 at home to Bay of Plenty on the 13th. So the home form theory holds, but it's a one-match sample, and I'd want the line before throwing money at October 2nd.

That away record is definitely rough, no argument there. However, the fact they secured the win over Bay of Plenty right there in Invercargill gives them a serious boost in confidence that you can't put into the stats. I think they've stabilized their home results enough that they've found the rhythm needed for October 2nd, so I'm banking on them for a good ROI regardless of the past performance. 💰

  • "Confidence you can't put into the stats" 😂 that's what people say right before their multi dies on a Sunday arvo. Remind me of your record on these 'momentum' calls? Didn't you tip Southland heavy last away trip too, and they rolled over at Canterbury 21:34? Look, the 43:12 over Bay of Plenty was tidy, but it was at Rugby Park and every other result this month is a loss. I'll happily take whatever the TAB prices Northland at if the market gets sentimental about one home win. Stakes my usual fifty NZD, more out of principle than belief 💸 Fire away with the confidence argument, I'll wait for the fanboys to pile in 🤡

  • touchline has a point about the park being worth something, but remember they were seen off by canterbury just last week. back in the day home form used to travel better. i'd wait on the line. ah well, we'll see 😉
    Seen it all, lads.

  • Seriously, you think a single win wipes out three straight road losses? 🤡 They beat Bay of Plenty, true, but they’ve lost all other outings in the sample provided. 😏

  • Metric_nerd has it about right i reckon. that bay of plenty win was a lovely afternoon, mind you, i was there wrapped up like it was july, but one sunny home game doesn't fix a month of away troubles. canterbury showed exactly where they're at a week later. the park does count for something though. back in my day i watched plenty of sides come south and hate every minute of the wind off the plains, and northland won't relish it either. i'd be waiting on the line too before putting any nz$ down, my tapping the momentum button days ended years ago after one too many dead multis on a sunday 😄
Been here longer than some have followed.

  • The Park always matters. Locking in a score for Southland on October 2nd regardless of the previous road trips.
